WristScan 15.10.-17.10.2021 "The unexpected" is live now
I hope all of my fellow Purists have got a good start into their weekend and are ready to indulge in some great watches here on WristScan.
The theme today is all about pieces that you thought you would never be able to get, you would never be offered, or simply th surprising call from your AD.
The watches on the picture are my experiences:
I got the Lange 1815 mp offered from Wempe London in 2010, something I thought would never happen. š
When my Breguet 7037 came out, I thought it would be out of reach for me, but luckily more than a decade later I found it for a price that I could pay for.
The Omega 1894 was a suggestion from a fellow Purist on WristScan and I thought I will never find such a watch in perfect condition, if at all for a decent price.
But again, this time only a few weks later, I found it š.

Your theme has got me reflecting yesterday about the philosophical nature of collecting.
So here they areā¦on blue straps side by side. Unexpected pieces they are.
2 pieces were unexpected for me. Letās start with the good news.
Good news: A former moderator here told me he spent north of 20k for a similar piece when it was released in 2009. Fast forward to 2021, the pedigree of a Speake-Marin lingers. But, I got this piece for $5k. Yes $5k. I was so happy, I actually paid a little more to the seller to thank him for the wonderful āunexpectedā blessing.
And the ābadā news:
Bad news: I love Grand Seiko. The finishing is marvellous, and the dials are deep and philosophical. When a chance came to purchase a US exclusive, I jumped on it, thinking Iāve scored a harder-to-find piece. My love for this piece remains till today. However, they decided to release the range to the world, which is a minor disappointment. The manager and team at the boutique remain very very nice to me, and I have only great things to say about their level of service.
Unexpected can be such beautiful ...
and philosophical indeed: you winn some, you loose some.

Yes indeed, in both cases I adore the pieces, so they are keepers.
Not sure what my next piece will be. Maybe a standard FF as Iāve been thinking about it so much. Will wait it out for the new releases first before planning the purchase.=D

I also love the Blancpain FF in their many variants offered presently. ItĀ“s a good move to wait for the new releases as we can always be surprised with a new option.

Testing out the camera today
I decided to take the plunge and use the BB58 in the pool (although chemically, silver can show some erosion with chlorine).
It quickly showed a yellowish tint to the metal. Thatās the plus and minus of silver.

Fascinating ā¦
Each time I see this movement, Iām fascinated by its specification and technical ability. All this and not a blued screw or gold chaton in sight.
Yes, it really is made so that nothing distracts from the watchmaking, even though that balance bridge is black polished by hand, for example.
Still very much looking forward to seeing this one in the metal.

Because it slides so neatly up a shirt cuff and due to the Frodsham team's goal of making it very reliable (you may recall one prototype was worn on daily bike commutes, the other worn while mowing the lawn, etc), I've discretely worn it quite a bit.
