...that posting a photo of a watch in this thread (and therefore admitting that it may be at the bottom of one's preferences) might actually reduce its value if and when posted for sale!
The potential for that crossed my mind, Nico . . .

. . . but as a theme for WS, and with everyone participating, I would hope it would be seen as Mike meant it to be perceived, as an exercise for sharing the development of our collections in all their phases, including the final stage.
Shilling is defined as 'promotion with consequent commercial intent'. Conducted by an individual, it's an invidious practice we don't allow. As an informed, mature community, though, we should be able to discuss the disposition stage of our collecting experience without touching off alarms. Groups evolve thru ritual; this theme should be viewed as such. Think of My Dinner with Andre.
Bravo to Mike for having the courage to start a discussion on a subject we normally veer away from.
Best,
Art

Sure, I buy only the watches that I like to wear. But sooner or later things change.
Even the watches that I will "hand down" to my children, there are aspects that I would like to change...and if a "perfect" watch ever shows up, there is a watch which will need to be sold.
I guess I am looking for a photo of that watch "which will be sold" for that next perfect watch.
For example...my J*D Equation of Time. This is meant to be a keeper, a watch that I purchased for my first son. It is one of the most beautiful watches that I have ever seen imho. The sun along the horizon...perfect for the EOT complication. HOWEVER, look at the printing on the EOT curve...notice the offset of the printing at +5 and +10...drives me crazy. If another watch worthy for my son is ever made, I will probably sell this to purchase it. So far in 8 years, nothing close...except for the PuristS IGOTT AP LE.
I don't see it as a sad or bad event, all my watches teach me something and help me refine my taste (which may not suit everyone or anyone at all).
Perhaps you've been extremely careful or patient and have avoided this issue...
I share a similar philosophy to you...i wear what I like. I spend a lot of time thinking about what watches in want to wear and what watches i need in my collection. I also spend time thinking about what watches i no longer want in my collection.
Sometimes I buy a watch that i eventually fall out of love with. I am fairly sure that maybe i even bought a Panerai from you once that you fell out of love with .... Pam 40? I think it was yours once..... i wanted it, and offered enough for the seller (was it yours?) to sell it. We all do this to an extent, i suspect. We buy watches with the best of intentions....but at some point we occasionally change our minds and sell.
In this sense, I think the theme of watches we have fallen out of love with is perfectly reasonable. As a Moderator, and I am sure I speak for all Moderators, we are acutely aware of when people shill their goods for sale. When I see it, then I stop the process. But on Wristscan, I think the participants are hardcore PuristS. I would be most surprised if people used a Wristscan theme as an opportunity to shill a watch. I posted two watches in this theme....are they for sale? No.... Am I out of love with them? No. Do I love others more? Yes. I am sure everyone approaches the subject in how they wish.
I think the theme of watches we have fallen out of love with certainly takes a different approach to the standard Wristscan, but to my mind so long as the participants respect the forum and act in the spirit of PuristS, I think its good to sometimes be a little provocative in approach. I certainly do not think this is an opportunity to shill. I am not sure I can see a single post that looks like it is, either. And i think that is the point....
I do understand your concern, but feel that so long as participants respect the nature of the forum, we remain a happy bunch.
