Peugeot 205 GTI 1.9. When cars were all about pleasure and fun.
Light, powerful, funny to drive, very living on the road, you had the feeling you were driving, not just moving from A to B point.

The 205 GTI ...
Started life as a 1.6 and evolved into the 1.9 with some interesting results. The 1.9 had a reputation for going backwards off the road in wet weather.
The T-16 was something else as I found out one February morning !
You are right about the 1.9 on wet roads. I still remember its great and amusing behavior. As for the T16, it is a totally different bird, in terms of performances and price...

I had a red one. 1.9 GTI.
It was light, fast for its day and fun. The back parcel shelf would rattle like hell and there was a feeling that if you hit something- it would be the end.

I had a 1.9GTI just after my Golf GTI Mk1 Campaign edition - it was quick and drove on rails, but I preferred driving the golf, even with the heat fade on the brakes.

It was everywhere in Rome when I was at high school!
I still drive another success from the same time, but much heavier and slower!

I could test drive the 1.6 which was easier on the road, strangely. Another fantastic car. As for the two you posted, hmmmmmm... Legends!

Watching other people drive by in their 205 gti or r5 gt turbo while I was lumping along in my 104 as a young student, you do learn the meaning of envy quickly as a young student 
Great car... my brother and i were more focused on the renault clio williams swiss champion. It was a small beast and extremly reliable (maybe because my brother was a mechanic working for renault?) :).
The peugoet is a great car. I was just more attached to renault

That didnt happen but have driven a 205 GR thats still in the family quite a bit. Not a GTI but you can still have some fun with it on a tight twisty road.

Hold onto this as long as you can. I also have cars from this era including a Golf GTI mk1.
It was sold to a Peugeot mechanics who converted it.
His plan was to put in the engine from a 405 Mi16. I saw some work in progress pictures but never the final version. That was after a really serious flooding hit Queensland.
That was years ago.
My dreamcar that i will own one day.
Apparently the 205 GTI seems to be that unreachable grail for me, in 2014 i was lucky to find a 205 XS .... so for the moment i am good.
If it weren’t for my Clio and Megane i would have bought a GtI.
Tough choice.
Maybe, maybe not.
Much depends on the situation, in my current situation i’d go for the gti as i don’t see any reason i could have fun with an A110.
Maybe times will change, maybe one day i’ll have a 205 GTI, an A110 and my Clio on the driveway, 3 very impractical cars but hey who cares ? 😂
