But I am old and therefore my thinking may not be relevant to now, when I was growing up in the late 70'-80's a Porsche was a relatively rare sight and inspired awe and desire at its beauty. They were real sports cars that not just anybody could jump behind the wheel and drive one they needed and demanded a level of skill and respect as they would happily spit you off the road without hesitation if not shown the respect they deserved.
IMHO a luxury premium product should not be mass produced they should be aspirational and hard to acquire not due to marketing games but due to the limited number available. Again I mean no offence to anyone but once they started making these cars so easy to drive with all the drivers aids that quite literally anyone with the money and a driving license could drive them they lost some of their allure. The exception being the "Special" cars such as the more hardcore versions, but the numbers of Porches you can see in any good residential or shopping area is quite frankly a joke IMHO they are not rare or special any longer but out there in abundance.
As i said I'm old but when I think of a Porsche what springs to mind is a late 70's early 80's 3.0 litre or 3.3 litre wide body turbo now that was a serious machine, my favourite was a Porsche a friend of mine owned in the late 90's a Ruf twin turbo that was an untamed beast of car. Obviously these are just my thoughts and feelings and anyone is free to feel differently.
I do wonder though if Porsche hadn't just gone for bigger profits and more cars produced and remained somewhat of a niche car maker maybe they would find themselves in a better position now.
