Since 1979 I have owned mostly 2 door GT convertibles, I tend to sell coupes after a short period of time for another convertible.  I will admit I did own a 4 door in 1996, a really cool looking E320 (but I traded a 850Ci that I still miss).

My father only drove two door automobiles, mostly convertibles.  Maybe I do not need therapy.....

Apart from my first car which was a second hand Renault 4, all the cars I have had have been 2 doors coupe. Golf GTI, Alfa Romeo 2000 GT Veloce, Willis Jeep 1943 when I lived in Brasil, Peugeot 205 GTI 1.9 (the most fun car I have had) Peugeot 406 Coupe (the most beautiful car I have had IMO with the Alfa) BMW 330 Coupe and now BMW 335 Coupe. So, for me definitively a two doors.

The 205 GTI 1.9 was a star in its category. Its chassis and engine was full of life!

And the Alfa!

We have similar tastes in cars, too.

My fav car by far is the 911 (all of them), so we could say Coupe would be my  choice most of the times. There are some 4 doors cars that I would not mind to own, like a Subaru STI, or a V10 M5

I'm now in the position where i could be a 2 seat guy, but i have a 4 door saloon simply because my parents are getting older and live 200+ miles from all of us. I thought about them when i bought my last car as i ferry them around when needed as dad can only drive about 100 miles now.
With the amoumt of crap they carry aroumd i should have gone for the legacy estate

One day i may go for a 2 door, 2 seater or convertible if my ageing bones can get in and out of the car.

What would i like?
Not sure really as i'm very fussy. Must have cruise control and auto box with a price £8-10k which limits the market a bit.

I quite like the idea of the 200bhp vw eos. A tin top convertible with 2 litre turbo inside, but not overly sporty.

Perhaps i should stick to what i know. 4x4's or cars with decent sized engines.
Loving the subaru so not changing for several years yet.

Not many really. English classics rot, us classics have big engines and i dont like many euro cars.
I prefer practicality so cruise and auto usually means big jags and daimlers like mr b drives. Too heavy on fuel and spares.

A good sorted xjs would be nice, but i'll never get one.

All coupes and convertibles look like they could be fast so get looked at by the boys in blue. My boring 4 door silver box looks like all the others and just says 'legacy' on the back so no one knows it has 270bhp under the bonnet and dont give it a second look. Very handy as i would hate to be stopped all the time.

Sorry about that odd message i sent.

Yep i have previous for excess speed, but not in my car. I was in the cops favourite target, a subaru impreza wrx prodrive in blue with gold wheels. No wonder i got stopped :)

been driving the Lotus now for over a year and haven't been stopped yet.
Not because I am suddenly behaving better, 'though I do know where the radar traps are.
I can only imagine that the police "know" that the Elise is under powered and they keep their eyes on all the Lambos and Ferraris etc that fill our roads.
It is something I had never even considered when I bought the car; all the people stopping and staring, teenage girls crossing the zebra stripes real slow to get a good look at the car (not me for sure), the thumbs-up from the guys.

Oh, the topic is 2 or 4 doors?
Let's say I started out with 2 doors, a Beetle and have had 4 or 5 doors ever since until Elise came along.
For the styling 2 doors are the way to go, but with family the practicality of 4 doors is imperative.
(now that the kids are out of the house 2 doors is more practical 'though. They don't keep calling to borrow the car and Dads muscles for moving etc. They do seem to appreciate the fact that Elise is not really a pack horse.)

I started with a beetle Don. Its amazing how many of us did i think. Cheap reliable and cheap to insure.

Regarding uk policing. In a year or 2 uk will be the place to come if you want to race on roads. Sunday times gave some figures on how many traffic police were on most forces.
My old force, Hampshire, refused to answer, but stated there would be cuts because of the budget cuts.
Amazingly, Norfolk and Suffolk have amalgamated their road policing and firearms units and reduced them from 66 to 42 officers. Thats 10 at any one time to police the major roads in all of 2 counties.
A frightening prospect as you will be very unlucky to meet a traffic officer.
They and all other forces will still have the static speeding camera vans run by the local council.
