As far as I remember, in my family, we always had  Coupés or at least 2 doors cars.

Strange observation, as it seems that may tastes in cars  found their roots in my past.

My mother always had ( and still has, by he way ) a strong passion for cars, and had some cool ones.

I still remember a pair of Beetles, one convertible, the other not, we had in the Seventies, as well as a lovely Fiat 850 coupé, while my Godfather had various Coupés from  Lancia, Alfas and Fiat, specially a Fiat Dino Convertible which is still stuck in my head and in my heart ).

Since my very first car, a VW Scirocco from 1978, I never had a 4 doors.

I am not particularly attracted by the two back doors cars, and much prefer the lines of the two doors, even if they are not Coupés.

Among the Coupés, I have a strong preference for the 4 seats, the GT, even if some exceptionos are to be mentionned, such as the Lotus 7, for example, or the Elan from the same " house ".

I don't use them, I much prefer the concept of the 4 seats, even if they are symbolic at the rear part of the car.

GT more than Sports, maybe?

Hey Kari, a few remarks.

... though i must admit that build quality has taken a giant leap over the past years ... why ??? ... i think it was all or nothing for brands like Renault and Citroën .

.. if it was freezing 1 out of 3 days here i probably wouldn't have a Renault ... a good ol' Audi Quattro ... or Subaru Impreza .... coupé !!!

.. of a road trip to the polar circle ... with my Renault Clio ... but my wife doesn't want to come along :-( ... .

... though i must admit i tend to focus on two-door cars ... .

My next car was an Audi A3 ... two door once again ... 

Another decade further we went for the Mini ... two door ... 

.. .. and another one ... two door ...

The latest purchase was again a two door ... why would you ask now ??? What i find really easy about two door cars is the fact your door is longer ... so one has a better view looking behind thru a sidewindow ... in a fourdoor car you're looking at the pillars from time to time which can be quite tricky in a country like mine were some idiots decided on some stupid rules like 'priority a droite' which i find really bloody annoying ... .

Can i consider my Transporter as a coupé ? It does have two doors !

My first fourdoor was an Audi A4 Avant (quattro) ... good for transporting a two door ... do you recognize the car at the back my friend ? Yes, i owned it for a while but decided to sell it because it was quite unrepearable .... :-(

After the first A4 came the second one ... actually these aren't fourdoors but five doors ... or breaks as you can call them; good to load stuff and great travel cars for the family ...

For a brief period even my wife went for a break ....

But a new member in the family decided we should get a real four door ... with beige leather seats ...

So have i become a hothatch fourdoor addict ???

Or should i go for the best of both worlds ??? A fourdoor with two-door coupé looks ?

You need a hand ???

There are a few cars I love in a 4 doors configuration: Jaguars are among them.

For the rest, I am not attracted by the utlility of the concept...

...with my and my family's cars it's never been a question. You like or need the car...and the number of doors is secondary. So it's always been a mix.

Alfas? Giulietta Spider and Guilia Super

BMW? E21 323, 2500 and E23 733

Jaguar? Only 4 doors. Series 1 XJ6s

VW? Mk1 GTI and B1 Passat Wagon

Riley? RMB and RMD DHC.

But thinking about it some more...most of the cars have been 4 door - too many more to list - much more practical when you have dogs.

Well, as a city guy I have little use for a car other than to get out of the city...mostly for leisure.  So the better question, my friend, may be "why not"?

That's a stunning reminder of how cool these cars are.  Mine had 48000 miles when I gave it up.  Sold it to the local Mercedes dealer so I wouldn't have to extend the grief of showing it to buyers.  As my only car, however, it didn't do everything well.  I'm sure you know what I mean...Thanks, Ken

Thought you would like to see a twin.

...at crazy good prices and in awesome condition.  Seems they were sold as third and fourth cars, and many have low mileage to this day.  And bullet-proof--the last MBs to be built without regard to cost.  I will have another one some day, perhaps blue and cream (had an E320 Coupe in this combo and loved it).  Handling tip:  I put Blistein HD shocks on mine and it made a world of difference.  Less "wallowing" on dips, and flatter cornering.  K

One would think that in a place like Perth a cabrio would be the right choice? So thought my wife Maritza, so we went and bought a Peugeot 205 Cabrio, real lovely car designed by Pininfarina, decent 2l engine and very good handling as most of the French cars but......because there is a but...it is bloody too hot here, when you stop at the traffic light you burn and when you drive you don't feel it that much but your skin burns, too many UV in this region. So after three years driving the car mainly with the "capote" on she opted for an Audi 3....2 doors  I think that here in OZ Melbourne is a great place to have a cabrio.

I like having the capability of seating four, but not encouraging it.....
