Patek Philippe

I am drawing my attentions next to a 'useful' complication such as a Travel Time or Dual Time.

I find that the Patek 5134 ticks a lot of boxes for me, but only the earlier version in WG with the applied Breguet numerals.

Trouble is I cannot find much information on this model, especially since it was changed in production to different hour markers under the same reference number.

I know it gets criticised for the movment size seeming to be lost in the case back but does anyone have any real world experience of this reference? Any other dual/travel time watches to consider (note I do not want a world time or timezone watch).

What were the production dates for the Breguet dial version?

I have seen a couple for sale with 'undated' papers and this is a good time to ask what that means and what are the ramifications of it, good or bad. It always seemed strange to me undated or 'open' papers on a very old watch.

And this is my old 5134G.

I bought my 5134P in the original unopened packing (double sealed) with "open" papers. So those are available because I bought my watch some 13 years after it was originally sold.

I must admit I do prefer the G to the P, Need to try one on the wrist but I think I may well 'go for it', they seeem incredibly good value for something so elegant and functional.

of the older model while the two-tone dial of the newer platinum is really nice in metal.

It also makes a nice pair with 5196P

Thanks both. I have noted the price of the 5110 is not far from the 5134 and I think you may both be uniquely positioned to compare the two pros and cons.
I am also considering the Lange 1 Timezone

The 5134 is the more practical complication if you are using is to track two time zones while traveling. The 5110 is the more iconic watch. Quintessential Patek. Among the most beautiful they've produced. And what the 5110 lacks in practicality it makes up for in charm and whimsicallity. You look at it and dream of travel. The Lange is not a world timer. Like the 5134 it tracks two time zones, not all 24 like the 5110 does. It's a beauty too

..and this is all I need but the 5110 seems a lot of watch for the money. Seems there is no bad choice here!

Aesthetically, the watch is more classical but more refined as well. Very elegant.

The world time it is makes it very useful and/or very satisfying to wear.

I also think it is a very important reference for Patek.

However, in the end, the 5134 also has a lot of character and a more dressy dial as it is "cleaner". Hence, you must really choose the one you feel you'll love wearing on the long run.

Keep on thinking and discussing about it, it is good in order to take a better decision.

I tried several watches today...
The 5134 is not for me. I LOVED the dial of the older 5134G but the watch is too small for my wrist and I could not differentiate between the two different hour hands or even the minute hand. Also the lack of date was a miss imo.
Tried a 5110G and loved it. But I will hold off for a 5110P (or 5130P as I also tried a 5130G). I can see a WorldTime in my life at some point but it does not fulfill the Travel Time objective I am looking for today. Let us also see what Basel brings. But 5110 or 5130 what a stunning watch just not for me at the moment. 5110 seems a relative bargain.
Tried a 5164, not for me, not an Aquanaut guy.
Tried a Lange Timezone in both WG and Pt. Impressed by this but is like a cross between a Travel Time and World Time. There are other Langes I prefer.
So I ended up ordering a Travel Time, but not a PP (or a Lange). I am very excited and will reveal all in due course (delivery early March).

So after my day of trying various watches early in Feburary it is time to reveal my eventual choice. As you know already, it is not a PP, Lange or JLC. This watch of all I tried was both the most comfortable on the wrist and the easiest to read at a glance so is perfect for me. There is some who don't like the asymmetric window for the home time on this watch but if you see the watch in the flesh and think about what you want the window to tell you then it makes perfect sense. Also this particular example has the cloisonne enamel dial which is also not to everyones' taste. Again the pictures do not do it justice (in this case the picture has strange reflections as the plastic protection is still on the watch) and in any case I love it and that is all that matters

I will do a full write-up in the 'Independent' section once I pick it up properly later this month. This was just a visit to view along with Padj on his day trip to London. Ladies and gentleman I give you the Laurent Ferrier Galet Traveller ....

I think you see Padj soon and he can tell you his honest thoughts of it in the flesh. I am very impressed with everything about it so far. We even set it to New Jersey time for Padj, (sadly I did not take a picture of that) very easy

The most important is that you feel perfect with your watch. That's what we're all looking for.

I had a very open mind about all the watches I was going to try. No preconceptions. This is the one that worked on every level.

I recently got a Galet Micro-rotor but must admit that this Laurent Ferrier Traveler was my favorite! Awesome purchase I'm sure you'll enjoy it 👍🏻
