Patek Philippe

Calling all Patek Philippe experts - one of my main peeves with perpetual calendars is the limited legibility of the dial. FPJ solved it perfectly with his Octa QP, and I noticed the same way of showing the date present in the two models mentioned above (aperture instead of small dials). Does anyone know of other references from Patek available on the second-hand market?

....the 3448 is a reference that is around 50 years old. Are you looking for references that are older than that or more modern but like the 3448?

....i am struggling. 2497 marks the very early variant....as you mention also 3448.
Since then, in perpetual (ie not with chrono)....am struggling

There is something about the legibility - I could go for the annual calendar, the almost perfect 5396g, if not for the absolutely mind-boggling hideous date aperture. If they cut this out, and put the day on the moon phase it would have been a perfect watch.

.....the purity of the dial and the clarity of the watch is just sublime. For a perpetual, it just kills. The 3450 is a touch rarer and has the added technology of a leap year indicator.... but i actually feel that detracts from the dial aesthetic.

If you want a more modern reference then you will start in 1981 with 3450 and 3563 but then the subdial with small hands arrived in 1985.

The references you provided are very helpful! Perhaps 5320 is a sign Patek will put out more watches in this format.

I got a 5396 annual cal. I can't have all the sub-dials and the numerals like in the 5327: just too crowed.

As others have pointed out the movement is obviously too small for the case, thus the larger dial filled with Breguet numerals.

I would say that, from that picture below, the caliber is clearly not too small for the case. By the way, my opinion is that the way a caliber looks through a sapphire case back is subjective, like the size of a watch on a wrist is.
