Patek Philippe

This year has seen a major setback to my finances no thanks to all the temptations on offer and my remarkably weak self discipline.  As a result, I have ended up doing reckless things like leaving a deposit on this absolutely irresistable 1503.  I could not find or afford the sought after stainless steel piece so I have opted for this stainless steel and yellow gold piece, the combination of which I must confess, looks a lot better than it sounds!    More importantly is the condition of the watch which has been 'valeted' by Patek but the dial remains original. Not bad for a 74 year old watch

The raised yellow gold arabic numerals and the yellow gold hands contrast well with the stainless steel case and silver dial

The movement looks ok to me

I like these early two tone cases quite a lot. Very consistent with the time.

I must admit I know little about vintage watches except that I love their size and the way they look, both the dial and the lugs. The fact that the two tone case is consistent with the time is an added bonus.

The shots are those from the dealer and definitely not mine. I have not even seen or tried on the watch which is arguably a 'reckless and irresponsible' purchase but it looks too good not to own if possible.

I very seldom buy a watch without even seeing it or trying it on but this was being sold in Germany and I was in London on holiday and am now back in Malaysia. So I had to make an executive decision ie go with my instinct!!

Some dealers remove the movement from the case for servicing and for the obligatory photo.

will look as good in 74 years time even though I shall not be around to check on them! But I agree vintage Pateks do look superb as do vintage Vacherons, Omegas, IWCs, Longines, Jaegers - imagine until 9 months ago, I never owned a vintage piece and would not even consider getting one for fear of reliability and accuracy issues and now, I am a vintage convert!!

I hope one day it will be priceless but for me, I am just thankful that I came across it when I did because this watch is likely to be a keeper.

in London at the end of next month and will take delivery of the watch then.  The wrist shots should follow soon after!  Thanks Gordon. My weakness for small watches is at a critical stage and I must overcome this addiction soon. Is there a clinic you could recommend??!!

Congratulations on an amazing version of a beautiful watch! I too looked at the steel version a little while ago and instead got a wonderful VC Cornes de Vache in fantastic condition like your new beauty. 

What a handle!! The VC is so much better value for money so you did well. Enjoy your VC too! Vintage cars cannot be used daily but I noticed that vintage watches can! This is my daily wear by the way, the 1530A (yep, in steel )

Gorgeous again. I like the simple hands on both. Some say they're plain (which they are), but I like how they "get out of the way" and are the most minimalistic way to get the job done. Kind of like the hands on my VC.

Thank you! I can pull it off because of my small-ish wrist (6.5 inch, 16.5 cm).

Nothing wrong with 33mm, In fact my incoming skeleton is 31mm and due to its thin bezel, it wears fine!   

I never would have guessed it was 31mm. In fact it looks bigger than the VC on my wrist.
