It reminds me that three years ago, when I was in Italy, I saw several ADs having the 5960 in steel in their window display, and that some were offering a substantial discount... [nt]

The fact that these watches havent been snapped up
Before delivery reflects the state of the market. 5240 / 5930 / 5524 is almost like 5960 of yesteryear. Sitting st every AD in the world!! I knew the 5270P wasnt flying off the shelves but in a window display.....ouch!!!
As an avid PP collector, this is a sad sight.
I hope TS knows what he is doing as I get a feeling that PP have been overproducing over the last few years.
We’re at a point now where whenever a piece is available some people are using that as a reason to disparage the reference - since it is available it must not be any good.
Then that same person will disparage the brand for “playing games” with other pieces that are unavailable. It’s just ridiculous. Of course, this dynamic allows some of us to take advantage of the availability of great pieces that the market is currently overlooking. I do get tired of hearing both of these types of comments, though.
++1 very sad that availability is somehow a scarlet letter indicating undesirability.

I think the brands need to create non-movement display models so that passersby can see the them and their presence in the window won't have a negative connotation.
I can't believe they haven't done that yet. The models can be the property of PP and returned when they are discontinued.
Some Patek ADs do this already, I visited one just the other day in Milano. Some other ADs that I know even display their own (good) watches when they don't have enough supplies...:-)
You'll notice immediately these models since the carry a "Display only" sign and are normally set at 10:10 ;-)
Of course, watch retailers are not the only shops that adopt this kind of strategy, ask virtually any woman who's trying to buy a nice bag...

I find every shop should have all/ most pieces on display. But display doesn’t mean it’s for sale!
This gives the customer the opportunity to try on specific models and make a proper decision whether or not to order the watch.

That you cant get a Nautilus is because demand is high and supply is low. The factvtaht these watches are on the shelves means either demand is low or supply is high!! No doubt they will move eventually. I offered to buy the 5270P if they threw in a 5711 (didnt fall for it) and I think it's also geographic. I was in USA where I was shown a 5370P, 5159 in every metal 532& in both metals, 5205G etc etc he then offered me a 5131P which would beat my existing September delivery date!!! In closing I declined the offer of a "tutti frutti" and passed it onto a fellow forum member who I understand has bought the watch!!!
That's sad but true
Somehow, whatever that is now on display are considered non-hot models where nobody wants, regardless of their horological merit, esp for those collectors that lean towards an "investment" POV when deciding what pieces to buy. In particular, I find the dressy Patek Perpetual Calendars to be particularly slow to sell. Nearly every PP dealer have them in stock. Which is a pity as they are nice watches.
For good or bad, this is the situation at nearly all ADs...this was another one in Germany in May -- apparently not only they couldn't sell the 5230, but even the old 5130/1G version...;-)
I love Fasoli (especially their Venezia store), but alas I can believe that, the 5170 wasn't that easy to sell either ;-) [nt]
