Hello fellow Patek Lovers,
I am sorry to say this but I was disappointed with my wife's Patek 24.
After I was busted having an affair..... I decided to buy my wife a Patek 24.
The only problem was I was terribly disappointed with the following facts:-
1) it's a lot of money for a steel watch with a quartz movement (even if it has top qulaity diamonds)
2) the movement is held in place by a dam plastic insert holder...... WHY PLASTIC ????
I could not bear this thought and decided to sell the Patek and purchase an 18K Gold Cartier Baignoire 1920.
Was I stupid? Please tell me what you think.....

It is for me personally forbidden to have watches with plastic.
Rubber is oké, but only for the strap and some decoration,
because my next watch have some rubber.

I can not understand why FP Journe have a quartz watch in his collection. And Richard Mille do the same.

Some people (from both sexes) want something that has a convenience to go with the appealing design.
As a manufacturer, trying to capitalise on revenue income, why wouldn’t you have something in your line to sell to the ladies (mostly)?
Not everyone with the financial means is remotely interested in horology – quite often it’ll be more about cachet and looks, and inclusion within their social group.

It's all about the money...
the margins on a 24 are huge.
Personally, I've never felt the Twenty-4 held a candle to the JLC Duetto.

+1 ...immense margins, so no shame in making and selling the product.
It is a business, after all, and the 24 is well designed and finished as a jewelry piece, which is what it is.
And I agree, the JLC Duetto is the one to get here.
For quartz, I think Cartier makes watches 90% as nice as Patek's 24 and at much better relative prices.
Some people actually really do care for accuracy
Then there is the convenience factor. His wife could very well care less about what's on the inside, she might just want it to be with the right time once she reaches for it in the drawer. Quartz had you covered here.

Buy a watch - not at the brand.
The movement is an integrated part of the watch.
I bought during the last ten years tens of Patek and the first number is not two. I never even considered buying quarts. Not even for my wife.

Interesting. My wife was looking at getting either a Patek Philippe 24 or a Cartier Tank Américaine.
In the end she decided to have the Tank because the 24's dial is too small (even in the bigger version) and the bracelet is just way too wide in comparison to the case. The proportions just don't look right on the 24 once you have tried on the Américaine!
I am actually more interested in the affair bit....archie...

My wife has had a 24 for many years (13) and she loves it
But, in the intervening years she’s gone crazy for Rolex and has come to have no issues setting and resetting an automatic movement. Maybe it’s time for the “new 24”, which is an automatic piece that tells me that Patek realized the error of their ways.

Because they're inexpensive to make and sell at terrific margins?
It's a business after all. Cartier has made a great business selling well-designed quartz watches to women. I don't see why Manufacturers higher up the food chain should turn down the easy money.
I’d be interested to see their marketing blah blah doing a full plea for quartz-haute horlogerie. same for jaeger & co.
I mean, women do deserve the same kind of horlogerie that we do enjoy!!!
As a category, I'm not sure women care. They seem to prefer the jewelry aspect of fine watches.
