...that happens to have a chronograph function. I don't need a pulsations dial, but I tried one one a couple of years ago--if it had leaf hands I'd probably own it. It is very classy and very easy to wear on my 7.25" wrist...
I do understand your love for the leaf hands — I like them a lot. For me the hands of the 5170j fits in with the baton and Roman VI and XII markers... give it another go !
Your early version of the 5170 is a beauty. Lots of positives and negatives for every watch. But it can’t be denied you own one of the nicest chronographs. Congrats!
Firstly congratulations on your wonderful new watch.

I hope it brings you many many years of enjoyment and pleasure. All I can say is this. I agree with all the comments here from all the different angles. I for one am big enough to put my hands in the air and say I was somehow blinkered by the 5070 at the time of the 5170’s release. What I can say now is that I’ve owned a few 5070’s and still own the 5070p however I have seriously fallen for a 5170 to the point where one will join my collection some time when the right one comes up. I’m sure we have all been there. At the time of the 5170 release I was still in love with the 5070. I can only explain it like this. When I had one son and my wife was expecting our second I remember thinking how am I going to love this child as much as I do my first I can’t possibly love any more. Well a bit extreme I know but a similar thing happened. I was probably if honest not very open to any more Chronograph love at that time. But when I looked past the historic pull of the 5070 and for me what is Patek DNA I saw a wonderful new chronograph which whilst may not have had the same pulls it certainly steps up to the plate technically and aesthetically from a movement point of view. The more I looked into it the more I felt drawn to it. The proportions of the case are also very attractive even if the case design leaves me a little cold compared to the 5070’s case. The obvious case V movement proportions are clearly an improvement. It is a strange thing because many of the improvements of the 5170 are why I love the 5070. Anyway with regards to which one that for me is so much easier....... One of the 5170r models. I love Pateks rose gold and this with the Breguet dial is the one for me. Only think I’m still not certain about is silver or black. Hope my clumsy explanation makes sense. M.
Nothing clumsy about your reply. In fact the sum of all these replies - including yours - gives me greater clarity on the merits and faults of the said reference. Thanks for taking the time to reply me. I really enjoy such discussions.
