I am thinking about buying my first Patek Philippe — a Gondolo, yellow gold, with the 5009j movement, 2002 — from a reputable used/vintage watch dealer. Any thoughts on this reference and movement? Alternatively, I am also considering a Vacheron Constantin Historique (33 mm, yellow gold) for about 1/2 the price. I have never had a gold dress watch, and the Gondolo form is very appealing to me. Either watch would round out a small, sports themed collection — Rolex, Omega, and Panerai. I may fly to the location of the PP watch — a store — to try it on. Thanks!
In full agreement with your points, Sham, including that the Gondolo line is (still) very much underrated...so given that the secondary market is the only viable option for it (at least for men), today is a great day to go for virtually any of them! ;-)

Here's my personal preference (a 5124G), but again, only buy a Patek if you love it....and never settle for less! Cheers.
You have posted this watch before — and, I really like it. But, stretching the upper limits of my comfort zone for price. Love the red strap, by the way.
Thanks, I rediscovered it this summer after years in the safe (looks like I bought it in May 2010), and I'm more and more convinced about this red strap ;-) Wish you all the best with your Gondolo search, this whole line was really interesting! Cheers.
Your watch is very similar to the one I am thinking about. I called the dealer today to discuss some details. Unfortunately, given my business travel schedule, I am going to be challenged to fly there and try it on — at least not until later in the month.
I would also recommend the 5124g but I’ve noticed listings shrink and prices rise so better hurry 😉

The salmon dial 5124g is not only my favourite gondolo but also three handed Patek! This watch punches so far above it’s weight but has received publicity lately, Federico talks watches was singing its praises, and has gained considerable interest in the market. It’s an incredible piece!
Thanks. I pondered too long and it got sold! But, it drove home the point that I do, in fact, want this reference. So, eyes wide open for the next one!
