Match up 5712r vs 5711r
Just to be clear this match up is between the complications vs the bracelet. How can the complications not win. The beauty vs the beast.
What are your thoughts.
Normally I’d be inclined to pick the more technically interesting of the two
But in my opinion, the bracelet is so much a part of the nautilus that I’d have to stick with the regular 5711.
Less is more, and 'mhz vph' perfectly summarised it.

Both great pieces, but the 5711r is one of my grails. I would choose it over the 5712 every day and twice on Sunday.😁

The dial of the 5712 is a tad too cluttered, the way the complications are located doesn't feel right.
Both amazing choice for sure Bill. You already have a lot of great watch and I think some packet with bracelet … so I understand your interest for the complication…but…
For me here I would pick the bracelet with the simpler dial. Very personal choice, I am just not sure about the dial layout of the complication one…
Both with a terrific presence, even more so in R, but I'm very much for a bracelet on a Nautilus so the 5711 easily gets my vote ;-)
Hi Bill, the 5712 complications give me
complicated feelings 🤪 Complicated in that the dial is asymmetrical in a way which has certain symmetry (if you draw ✍️ a line between 1 and 7 o’clock). Furthermore, the power reserve functions is useful while the moon 🌝 phase is romantic, but the strap is not my taste for this watch.
Although the 5711 dial is simple, the RG case and bracelet match the brown dial well.
Hence, 5711 wins my vote by a slim margin.

I like the cleaner 5711 dial.
For the steel version, I’d prefer the bracelet. The best part is that it’s so comfortable and light that you don’t known it’s there.
For the rose version 5711, i wish Patek would create a strap option. With the right end links, you could swap to a rubber strap as well!
The Strap Version was first
When the 5711 was refreshed in 2006 there was a Rose, Yellow and White gold 5711s on straps.
The only place we have seen this combination is replica. I wish we could get some definitive info.
5711-1R
The 5711-1R would be my choice. Everyday any day and I will say 3 times on Sunday. It is a special watch (full disclosure I am biased), but it is special. The warm tones of gold and the rich clean
choclate dial. Yummy. I prefer it over it's steel brother but that is another story. Also as others have noted and I agree, the dial is a bit cluttered on the 5712.

Needs Leather
The 5712 would look more formidable on the Alligator strap.
The composite doesn't work IMO as one would undoubtedly have other watches to wear if water was a question.

As other said the bracelet is an important part of the design and the simple dial is a more beautiful and powerful design.
For me, the Nautilus is about an unusual sculptural design. Quirky even…. not about complications
