Aquanaut

Hello friends,

I am noticing that ALL Patek Aquanauts are listed on the Patek Philippe website as WR to 30 m, even including the 5167A.  Are others aware of this change?  Can anyone shed light on this, is this a marketing maneuver of some kind?  I was always so impressed with the 120 m rating for these.

Thank you!

30 meters.... From the beach. For Aquanuts only. :)))

How can they make an AQUAnaut less water resistant hahaha? Maybe rename it to the Nottooclosetowaternaut?

Ha

I saw the following explanation on another forum.

Apparently it comes from the press kit. Personally I find it very confusing that now 5326g has the same WR as a 5167a

Unified criteria for water-resistance
To ensure the homogeneity and clarity of the information provided to clients, Patek Philippe has decided to introduce a new unified standard of water-resistance set at 30 meters for all watches certified as water-resistant – having been tested in air and underwater by immersion at an overpressure of 3 bars (corresponding to a depth of 30 m). This measure makes it possible to guarantee the same performance level across all the models concerned and to provide perfectly comprehensible information as to the day-to-day activities in which clients can engage while wearing their watch: washing their hands, showering, bathing, swimming and other aquatic activities, including diving to a depth of 30 m – which corresponds in large measure to actual utilization.

Interesting

So they are basically saying, since we are unable to achieve=water resistance with CERTAIN models in there Aquanaut and Nautilus lines, we will just bring the standard down for all of them to the lowest common denominator? Well the interesting point, on a more positive side is that they at least ensure that 30 m means literally 30 m and thereby swimming is all good, etc. But still, on balance, there goes that magic 120 m. Have to hand it to them, they answer to NO ONE, LOL.

They should rename it the Aquanaut Due
