Does Patek use laser welding techique....
when it comes to Dings and scratches?
lange does use it so I wonder how universal is that in the industry.
Also , when you have scratches on the lugs and dings/ nicks on the bezel edge....
how does a watchmaker polish it out?
Does he polish the entire round bezel (to make it even) or only the affected area?
Just want to know how this process is done in detail as I think this is quite a very common question

to see how PP restore the case of current models.
Suitbert, it will be excellent if you can take us through the complete, detailed case restoring procedures done by PP. I believe most of us would like to know what they will do on our beloved PP when it was sent to its birthplace for a few months

I can't speak specifically for PP here as the last time I visited the case restoration dep. issome years ago.
I'm planning on doing some more in depth work on restoration, incl. case work - but
Laser welding is widely used nowadays and not nly for case restoring - even movements show clear evidence of this new technique.
You'd be surprised aboutwhat is possible in case refinishing - also how tiny the amount ofmaterial actually is which needs to be "removed" to make a previously prominent scratch completely invisible.
Generally it's not easy to work on the scratch area only - in order not to change the overall shape and not to create a "wobbly" surface the whole "plane" must be worked.
The worstcase always are those "quick and dirty" buffing jobs -this will ruin theoverall shape, sharp transitions change into rounded, poorly defined angles..... this often means a multitude of work for a proper refinising afterwards.Sometimes it's almost lost.
I'll try to do some before and after pictures later.
