Hello Patek Fans,
I have been contemplating for some times now on my first Patek. Every time I enter my AD the first question out of his mouth is," are you ready for that Patek?' we laugh and joke about it all the time. I personally do not buy watches for investment purposes, that's what 401k is for. I see it and hear it all the time on how well a Patek retain its value and how much it went on the auction market. That is not my forte. I buy watches for the simple fact that I love it and that I want it. I have been crazy for mechanical and automatic movements for as long as I can remember ( sorry quartz ). My choice to plunge into are 5110,5130,or the 5070 . These are my price range . What do you of it?
Now I have to admit I have been serching , even though I think it is in vain, for MY HOLY GRAIL the ref.5959, equipped with the thinnest column-wheel split-second chronograph ever made. And I am a big chronograph fan. Does anyone know anything about this watch? Have anyone seen it? or held it ? Or does anyone own this watch and wants to give'em to me ( silly smile) ? And about what price range are we talking about, I know this will be a little over my price range, but I am willing to sell my wife for it........Just Kiddin!!! but seriously would love to know.
Thank You All,
LEY S.
you say you're a big chronograph fan and one of the 3 choices you give us is the 5070 ...
Well, if you can get one from your AD, go for it. Imo it's the most beautifull chrono ever made. For my it's even the most beautifull watch ever made
About the 5959. They make only 10 pce per year so I don't think we have a big chance somebody of us 'purists' has one. It is a nice watch but the 33mm is imo stupid. We're not in the 1940's anymore
...the comment about the 5959
Yes, we're not in the 40ties - but is there any good reason we shouldn't simply like and buy what we personally like.
And I've to say once more, my hat off for PP designing a watch like the 5959.
IMHO, "stupid" is really not appropriate - actually I find calling that "stupid" is, well .......you get what I mean
Personally I find a large part of todays 45mm+ watches almost funny....some are exceptionally funny as they're even
looking much larger and don't even wear well.
I know it's about taste - but I find comments like this a bit intolerant.
Just as a side note - I love to hear comments of "non watch people" in that regard - and it's very interesting that those
usually don't find anything stupid in wearing a 32mm watch for example.
I think it's as with many other fashions- I've just to wait a few years and sooner or later find myself in best company and "up to date" again
Best regards
Suitbert
let's say it would like 'stupid' on my big wrist, right ?
I know this piece is a work of art but the 33 mm nowadays is ... 'funny'
.
