Patek Philippe

Hello everyone, I recently bought my wife Patek 4910 from Tourneau.  I was in a rush and didn't examine the Warranty packet.  The sales lady said that the Certificate will take a while to issue and that that would call me to pick it up.  I took the watch home with the normal sales receipt (along with the fancy box).  Looking through the package, I really don't have any paperwork that has any "real" info.  Is this normal?

T-No sales person just want to complete a sale! and get thier%. They don't have a storage problem otherwise the box w'dve shipped later as well.

Go there ASAP and demand the papers/wallet or return the watch for a full money back. the longer you waut the lesser your chances to see the correct paperwork if any.

The sales people just want a rapid sale for their commission.  Everytime I go there, the salesman is different.  One time, I was even directed to look at the vintage section instead of the new section (I guess the salesperson profiled me to be a somebody who can't afford a new watch).  It was very insulting to be profiled, especially since they're wrong.   I made it a point to tell this story to a high up person in HSWA!  Much less to say, I speak with my wallet.... therefore, I buy Pateks elsewhere. 

that some dealers try and "hold back" the certificate of origin to make sure there is not a return. If the AD fills out the client info on the COO, and the buyer subsequently returns the piece within the dealer allowed time, the cert is non-replaceable. So some dealers tell the client that the cert will come in a week or so after giving the client time to be SURE they are keeping the piece. I, myself, would NOT accept this, but then again my AD KNOWS that I will not ever return a watch.

I have had several excellent experiences with Tourneau.  They deal in large volume for nearly every brand they represent; that gives them the ability to absorb the impact of problems.  I suggest that you contact the manager of the store and set a date to have them either refund your purchase price, replace the piece or provide the document.  Diplomatically tell them that you will share the experience with fellow collectors via the web.  I think you will be pleased with outcome.  Please let us know.

Hello all, thanks for the support and clarifications on your own experiences.  The watch was purchased on 12/31 and on 1/5 we received a phone call stating that the Cert was ready for pickup.  I verified the all the appropriate numbers and picked up the Cert.  I suspect that they are "holding" back the cert to make sure the sales is good or the Cert was back in their corporate headquarters.  This whole process is still very unusual.  THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE!

Well done! As far "unusual" goes you haven't see nothin' yet. You bought from a huge AD who, imho, would have made sure this turned out right. And I don't work for them, I just like buying from them. As an aside, a higher up in their co. told me that Patek (as well as several other major brands) strictly enforces the policy of not replacing lost Certificates of Origin. I was in one of the stores at a time when they misplaced one - what followed was an almost surreal frantic search by four employees! They found it.. under some papers.
