its in a whole different class than the AP as well as being a lot more wearable IMO.

LOL
2 so different watches, my friend...
The PP is a classy, classic, and timeless Chronograph.
The AP is a sporty one,
The answer is obvious....
Best.

I like your AP too but the price is completely insane, I even would call it scandalous.
Let me explain it. The listprice for the Carbon Alinghi was more or less 22.000 euro, the red gold was about 45.000 euro and the platinum was around 85.000 euro. So exactly the same watch (same movement, same carbon forged bezel, samse rubber strap, same ....) , the ONLY difference is a platinum case ... and therefor you have to pay 60.000 euro extra ?????????????
Guys, 60.000 euro for 100-150 gram platinum ?? the costprice is more or less 3000 eur
I guess your Barichello is comparable. So I would really prefer a titanium piece which is imo already very expensive for what you get
If Patek limits the production of 5070P to say 100 pieces (as it is rumoured so far), I guess the market value of it will be at least twice when it ever sees the daylight on someone else's wrist.

(I have asked this in other AP/PP forum)
could you share with us why?
- better price?
- better design?
- better movement?
- more traditional?
- better image?
- better availability?
- better service from AD?
- other?
I am still trying to find a single reason to buy my first AP.... any help?
p.s.: For your question, I don't think you would love to see my answer
Happy Wis,
We find ourselves in reciprocal positions. I have limited my purchases almost exclusively to AP in recent years (well, one VC got in there), but haven't been pulled the trigger on a PP yet. Here's an outline of why, without all the nuance:
1. Integrated bracelets: For reasons I can't fully explain, the aesthetics and comfort of an integrated bracelet are much more appealing to me than a strap. Hence, my favorite designs are AP RO, AP ROO, VC Overseas, Bvlgari Diagano, and maybe the new Nautilus series.
2. Size: Experimentation leads me to conclude that 40-42 mm is the size that works for me with an integrated bracelet, but that 37-41 mm is the rang with a strap.
3. Functionality: I require a 12-hour chrono at all times, for keeping billing records of services to clients at any hour. As far as I can tell PP did not supply this function until 5960P, which I ordered the day of first news leak (and am still awaiting).
4. Design: I love the octagon, the angulariy, the straight lines, the modern and industrial design aspects, and the more brushed than polished finish of the RO and ROO series, while Pateks other than the Nautilus have what to me seem too many arbitrary curves and rounded , polished surfaces.
5. Attitude, associations, image, advertising, hype, etc.: AP's appealing aspects (to me) include audacity, urbanity, and freshness; PP's unappealing aspects (to me) include old-fashioned styling and visible traditionalism. These are true even in the catalogs, packaging, and boutique furnishings.
Some models of each brand have reached price points that should discourage the rational buyer.
My choices among APs have narrowed to those with white metals; no colors other than white, black, grey, and blue; and no associations to sports or other fleeting events. My favorite PPs are 5960P, 5980, and, should I ever be able to go without a 12-hour chrono, 5070P and 5196G. I'd like the 5960P and 5980 even better and would have bought them by now if the minute totalizer were one hour per rotation eliminating the need for red markings and if they were available to me at MSRP.

Happy Wis,
Yes, indeed. If RO and ROO did not exist, I'd own VC Overseas Chrono and my wish list of PPs, and I'd learn to live with a strap.

The Journe is a million times nicer (albeit twice as expensive, or more); I'd say wait for the Journe Centigraph

The Goal is Soul

rejected both because I am not willing to pay premium for them.
However, if I can get either one of them for retail price, I will choose 5070.

I love 'blue' features in watches, especially in Panerai's; but the blue dial of the Platinum AP, combined with the blue croc strap, is just too much color...too hard to combine well with clothes, and certainly not worthy looking for its price. IMHO, this is the least desirable of the three RB's , and I would certainly not pay 2x more than a RB ti for an inferior combination.
I like the esthetics of the Patek, but I find myself wondering why such 'excitement,' considering it's price, especially for a watch that is not a full chrono - I have minimal use for keeping time up to 60 minute max.

palmasea
