Patek Philippe

When the 3712 first came out my initial thought was: so Patek is putting the 5054 in a Nautilus case, and that was pretty much the end of the story for me at that point. With that in mind I didn't pay much attention to the 5712 which replaced 3712 by the end of 2006. All that changed thanks in part to our dear friend Nicolas and the wonderful photos of his 5712. I was starting to notice the many small details that I didn't see on Patek's official photos. Seeing the watch in real life for the first time last summer was the turning point for me, and although I won't say it's as extreme as something such as "how can I be so wrong on this watch" but I was very surprised by the overall effect of everything coming together to form a nice casual timepiece. With the prices becoming more stable lately I was able to acquire one just in time for the upcoming hot and humid summer days. Some pictures to share with you all:

It's interesting to note that there's been some subtle changes on the 5712's dial. The first things being the extra white dot after the 48 hour power reserve indicator. The second is the way the stars on the moonphase disc is constructed. In my watch they're printed just like the moons where as in earlier examples they have a surrounding edge.

And finally with the latest advertising campaign. This appeared on the back page of a local business magazine today so I took a picture with it. Honestly I think the previous boat scene convey the idea of one generation to the next better but this one has a more modern appeal I guess.

Indeed a gr8 watch, u cannot go wrong with it. I also loved nicola's post about it. Pics were really good and highlighted some details i haven't noticed too. Such as the way the dial catches the light, the proportions, etc...

I agree with you that the dial is indeed one of the real highlights of this watch. It is always changing depending on the light condition, and Nicolas' photos do a fine job demonstrating that.

I hated it....Since I saw it in the flesh.

Congratulations. Indeed a great watch! I could really not imagine how nice this sports watch is until I saw it in real. The dial, hands, movement, case and bracelet, all are so nicely and elegantly made. Patek really stands out in the world of haute horlogerie.
