The 5396G is a very nice piece, but no competitor to the gorgeous 5146.
By the way, the perfect balance of the 5146G dial reminds me of my humble JLC RDM, including the power reserve indicator that I love.
I wish you the best choice

Had both. Never wore 5396, so it had to go. Looking back, I don't understand why 5396 appealed to me.

I would go with the 5146. I have owned this particular watch both in J which had the 315 movement and G that had the newer 324 movement fitted.
The clarity of the 5146 is very good.
Today I took a long hard look at the 5396G and I have to say that although the apertures were easy to read. I just didn't like the dial.
Now if it had a plain dial, similar to the 5125 I would jump at it.
Good luck with your decision making.
Hi guys,
I would like to seek your advice on the 5146.
I have just ordered a 5146R from my AD. This is my first Patek, and I am very exciting about owning this Patek in 2 weeks time when I arrives. However, I have a bit of worry about the rose gold as I have heard from a Lange forum that some Datograph Flyback owners experienced oxidisation (thus decolourisation) on the hour and minute hands in their rose gold timepieces. Some of them have sent their watches for service but the oxidisation remains.
Is it possible for oxidation to occur on the 5146R as well or other Patek? If it does, what is the best way to remedy it, or even prevent it?
Many thanks in advance.
You will not regret it.
I fancy that through excitement you may have trouble in sleeping in the days before you collect your 5146G? LOL
About two weeks ago, I got my PP 5146 with cream dial and dark brown leather strap. After more than 1 year of searching and waiting, I got what I want. What makes it more classic is actually it's cream dial. Eye catcher, head turner, whatever you want to call it, it will really catch your attention. My only negative comment on the PP 5396 is its wide bezel that easily scratches and quite noticeable. One more thing, the 5146, I think, has longer power reserve.
