Patek Philippe

I am about to purchase my first Patek.  I had been looking at the Gondolo Calendero (5135) which looks like it is now discontinued.   I like to have a slightly larger watch and this could be the reason that I was looking at this option.  Also a good shape.  However I would like to know if I should be concerened about the discontinuation.   I have also been told by some that a Patek you buy should be round?

My alternative option was the world traveler 5130 or the 5146.

So please help.   I am 37 and have the other basics in watches  (IWC, Panerai, Jaeger, Mueller, Vacheron)   this is a pinnacle purchase

You have chosen two very different complications.

They are both great pieces.

Which would you use the most?

Are you a traveller or would the Annual Calendar be of more use?

I would not worry in the slightest about any discontinuation of a model, as Patek guarantee's to service any model, no matter how old it is.

At the end of the day the decision must be yours.

I agree with TC.... the beauty of collecting watches is that there is really no right or wrong when it comes to personal taste

I thought about it several times but did not buy one (yet) If I had ore money I would have bought it without doubt

The 5135 is indeed discontinued but I'm sure your AD still has one

The choice between a 5135 and 5130 is difficult, both are nice, that's up to you

Succes with you first Patek

All three are good choices. The 5130 and 5146 have the same case size at 39mm, however, the 5130's dial makes the piece appear "smaller" partly due to the various time zones.

The 5135 is a lot larger, which you prefer.

Try all of them on your wrist and see which timepiece really speaks to you. That way, you won't be biased and as previously stated, it will still be your "personal" choice.

it depends on what style your other watches are too....

I would say try you favourite PPs on several times and the your wrist will indicate you ......

I would think that the 5135 being discontinued is a huge plus?

Why would that be a negative? You know Patek will always stand behind it, and while I dont chase discontinued pieces I always love when something I own already becomes harder to find.
