A little comparison on different 5070 , and sharing this good moment and a personnal vision of this special watch. All the watches here are NOT mine, but from resellers in Munich, thanks to them for their warm welcome.
The chronograph is not the most emblematic complication of the brand imho, in comparison to perpetual calendar for example. But Patek did always wonderful products with this complication, the 5070 is a good example.
Launched in 1998 Patek Philippe didn't really produced chronograph since the end of the 1463 if I am not wrong?.
For the new product, the brand will take some risks, I have rarely seen a watch with so many mistakes on photos:
The size first, too big, 42mm it is not the standard in 1998 and it is absolutely not adapted to the Leamania based CH27.
The bezel is incredibly large to compensate this error
The two subdials are very big for the small dial where a lot of infos are concentrated.
Legibility is a real concern on J and P imho.
Last thing, the price, quite above all the others with the same basis... especially on second hand market and in Platinum.
This watch is not appreciated by all Patek lovers, which is quite uncommon for the brand.
So many good reasons to avoid this watch.
...
But trying it will make you change your mind.
That day I have seen some other marvels : Lange Datograph, Vacheron Patrimony chronograph etc etc... and in my eyes the 5070 Platinum just "crushed" them, only on a pure aesthetic point of view, only the feeling.
42mm on my 15cm wrist... no way ! But here, it fits. Incredibly well done for such a watch!
The ultra large bezel gives a strong personnality, very classy and sporty at the same time.
And the dial doesn't shock at all in reality, a marvel.
J
First version, not the most well known.
All gold are different, and this yellow is... yellow. A striking yellow a strong one, not pink at all but every thing but pale.
"Bling" but so classy at the same time. The contrast with the dial is great. My second favourite 5070
G
The most discreet and legible, a bit different from the others.
It looks for me like a very old aeronautic chronograph.
Maybe not the most "punchy" , but one of the most charming for sure.
P
well... how to start...
No photo, absolutely NO photo can give you the dial effects.
Amazing, hypnotic, classy like no other. "Can't take my eyes off you" like the song said.
Let's think 30 seconds, the price is 5 times higher that what we can find with the same basis by other brand, finish is not as good as a Datograph Platinum imho, legibility is not one of her quality...
This watch is nonsense and if I had the financial possibility I could hesitate between a Datograph for example and another 5070... but not with the 5070 P as high as it is, I fell completely in love with this version, it blows your mind. The same with the last 5170, a fantastic watch a very thin caliber... but far away from the punch and the magic of the 5070P. You have to try it, to wear it, to feel it, everything is marvellous in this watch.
The white hands and the white wrintings: cheap? not at all, very sporty and elegant with the magic dark blue dial .
The diamond that you are the only one to see, it tickles ... The shine of platinum, his weight...
When you have it on your wrist you are just happy
Rosegold is missing but a group view.
Again this is my personnal feelings on this watch, I know the opinion is very divided on this Patek Philippe.
Thanks to people who shared this great moment with me
cheers
Francois
The secons pic of the 5070J is a good one !
This is the only 5070 I never saw irl. But this picture you posted .... wonderfull !. I must see it one day
For me this is the best one can get. If I had the money I would buy the 4 different 5070's.
The 5170 is very nice to but imo not even close to the 5070. And the VC, Dato, AP, Breguet .... all nice but still such a huge difference
Let me choose between a 5070 and 5970 and I take the 5070 in less than 0.000001 seconds

It is a gorgeoud piece Miles, really very , very, very nice ..... but just after a 5070 LOL
Now If I would win the Euro Millions, I would definitely buy the 4 different 5970's too .... but I'll start with the 5070's

The 5070P is an amazing piece Miles (great photos!)
... my partner has one and is deciding whether to buy a new PP or an F430 Spider, I have no preference... any thoughts?

I would not compare the PP 5070 to the Lange or the JLC one, but to this VC.
Same calibre, same philosophy, in two different expressions.
The VC was exquisite, this PP rules!
Best,
Nicolas
Another wonderful chrono based on the Lemania calibre is the Roger Dubuis Hommage.
Here's a picture posted by radone ( patek.watchprosite.com ).

If I could ever buy (and afford) such a piece, I think I would do it
this is magnificent

I sincerely find almost all the Roger Dubuis "hommage" extremely appealing.
I'd like to know why there isn't an "hommage" family in the standard RD collection.
Ciao!
I need to find somebody who has a 5070J and 5070G, I would love to make some shots of these 2
I'm quite stunned by those beautiful chronographs, depsite the fact I don't know them much : this post is a very good one to start with !
And thanks all for the pictures
thanks a lot for sharing , and you know what ?
i feel i'll fall in love with 5070 some day . lol
