Patek Philippe

Hi All,

I am just wondering , ( it might be pointless ) ...

What type of car or cars would Patek owners be driving ?

I am planning for a Patek ( sooner or later ) and I am driving a Ford Focus.

 

Comes to cars, eg, m3, rs4 etc. At the moment I've got a golf r32 and i love it. Very discreet and well built , bit like a patek.

so i have to confess im not sure on whether its 4th or 5th generation , whats the difference??. i'll post some shots in the next few days.

I have a touran and loving the twin charged experience.

I am a die hard Audi fan, have been driving Audi for over 10 years.  Just got an Audi A7, elegant and timeless shapes, not too flashy.

"Normally" top end cars, if you are looking at the price tag of a Patek.

But also like with cars: first and most importantly you have to be in the position to buy it.

Than comes the enthusiasm OR the prestige, that means that you are also seing a point in buying it.

And this applies to both, expensive cars and watches: the decision is completely driven by feelings.

Therefore it does not matter at all what you are driving, if you are living in a castle or can call yourself being a member of the upper class:

you have to be a sentimentalist.

who spend a "fortune" on cars, then on watches. Only a few lucky ones are able to spend money for both, if they are interested.

From my point of view it would be much more important which shoes you wear, while a Patek (or any other haute horlogerie brand) is on your wrist.
Board rooms, management meetings, airport lounge ... some nice watches, but sooooooo many bad/ugly/cheap ... shoes :-(

I fear you would hate my shoes!  I canot understand why anyone would need more than three pairs.  One pair for a suit, another for the weekend and a final pair for the gym.

Like may others I'm penny wise and pound foolish for everything excpet my passion.  For the price of a watch strap I could get a pair of very nice shoes...yet I have many straps and no shoes.

I hang my head in shame...!

ps: No hate for your shoes, but they would probably tell me a lot about you. Wouldn´t they? ;-) (No offense!)

..it would tell you that I don't really care about shoes..

I cannot see myself wearing my 5070 or Daniel Roth Perpetual with a worn out pair of ugly shoes. So, coming back to the initial question, equally legitimate would be to ask what kind of shoes are you wearing your watches with. This message has been edited by radone on 2011-11-07 01:19:01

if i was the general manager of a luxury watch brand and especially Patek, i would recommend my sales team, to look 1st at people's shoes, before showing them the great pieces.

Have a look at the PP latest blog stories "Two purchases worth celebrating".

There you can see a guy with white gloves on who is setting the 5016R, wearing quite old trainers!

And white socks and a Patek ???

Also not a problem: have a look at bullionsdesk's lates Patek aquisition, wearing white socks on the picture!

For years I couldn't bring myself to buy good shoes. For one the tropical climate I live in isn't friend to leather shoe(a nasty experience for the wearer too if I may add).

I do agree that a proper pair goes a long way with a fine watch. I most wear linen and jeans when I'm not working and boy do I look odd when I put on a yellow gold Patek and a pair of Nike!

Maybe that's why my wife hinted me to rid of the watch.

Maybe what I really need is topic on 'What shoes we wear with our watches'

That would made my day. To learn from people like you and other experience purist here will be a real treat.

I need this more than you think. You seen my choice of matching. They are nothing short of disaster so very much appreciate if you can share your thoughts here to save a purist from disgrace LOL

and my wife who will get her first Patek very soon loves her Porsche Boxter S Black Edition. My 1st Porsche is on order.

... i drive a porsche Carrera, and if you think of it as a pumped beetle, perfect engineering and finishing. The only true sports car for everyday. Now i am thinking what attracted me to Patek and porsche, there might be similar factors.
