The 3700 can be robust. My father has worn one for years and had no issues. I have a gold one and that has not seemed as robust as my other watches. At the end of the day a 5711 is more likely to be more durable as it is new and not 30 yrs old. Also just better technology. Best of luck.
I have worn the 3710 from new since 2001 on a daily basis (it has been tough to replace this watch since it is both casual and formal at the same time). The watch has been sent for service twice over 10 years, and after the first service, sent it back to calibrate accuracy within an acceptable level. No major issues, in fact, the watch has been more durable than many on these boards would have you believe. I would think a little less about the movement or "collectability", specifically, and focus more on which watch moves you more.

I'm cornered, trapped, resistance is futile... the Nautilus effect... so I am currently hesitating between 3700 and 5711.
I intend to have it on my wrist, not in a safe, at least 5 days a week, so movement robusteness does matter.
How does the 3700 compare to the 5711 in terms of movement ?

If your considering the 3710 its a rare and beautiful watch, however its hasn't been in production for years. I own a brand new tiffany 3710 which was never worn and considered putting it on recently. I wound the watch and let it run for about a week on my winder the results were very disappointing. A buddy of mine also owns a pair and had them repaired a few times. I own many other Pateks 5711-1a, 5960r, and 5712r they all run very well. I do know when a watch sits for a while the movement dries out, however i really don't want to spend money fixing a new watch. I would go with a 5711-1a which has a warranty and is in current production, 3710 is a collectors watch due to its short life not something I'd want to beat up. Good luck let me know what you decide.

Agree with above, the 5711 is a much better watch to wear. I believe that the Patek Philippe Seal equipped cal. 324 use the spiromax hairspring (if so, silicium hairsprings are not subject to concerns of magnetism another plus). Not to mention the warranty and being the first owner points, which are more subjective. Good luck either way.
