Patek Philippe

Going back and forth on this piece. 

Highly recommended and the composite strap is soft and very comfortable to wear.  No problem with the hot, wet summer.

thanks for the feeback. So you do not find the 5980R's height and weight to be an issue with the composite strap I assume? 

And my next watch I will pick up on 1st July is:

I was already quite interested when the first pictures were unveiled last year.

But I really came to think I didn't find any flaw when I saw it a little long after that.

It is a great reference, more modern than many of Patek watches available today and proving the brand can evolve with its time.

i like the 5960/1A a lot, particularly on a soft strap. My issue in acquiring this lies twofold. One is the lack of water resistance which i suspect would be bothering me in a summer watch. Two is the feeling of having to acquire a 5712R to make for some balance. Perhaps the steel solution would be the 5980 in white. Summery and water resistant... 

in gold and platinum. However, a sporting watch in my books is made of steel (Patek). Other manufacturers use ceramics, titanium and other materials suitable for sporting watches. 

I fully understand your will to avoid getting watch which are to close (as having a smae ref in 2 different material). I would of course act the same way, even if it is more to me, in the end, the fact to know which one is the one I would like to wear most.

This being said, if it is a watch very similar to what I already have, then I would take it anyway.

I have a 5712A too and if I was going for another Nautilus I would then go for a white dial (5726 or 5980). But this is very personal and there are so many choices in the Nautilus family that it is difficult to choose.

As I said in the past I love the 5960A (with a little change in strap though).


Now, to come back to your main question about the composite strap comfort, I haven't had the opportunity to try one during hot days (just in the AD).

yes white dial Nautilus is very very nice... Hard choices!

i am wearing the 5980R as summer daily now. I prefer this ref over my 5712/1A and 5980/1A black. The R is simply the best Nautilus if you want gold. The composite strap is perfectly paired. No heights and heft issue at all. And a Nautilus on strap, after actually wearing for a while, is not as bad as one thought. It is beautiful. A different look against the ones on bracelet but nothing inferior.

Sorry for my late reply. The 5980R is a bit top heavy but it doesn't bother me. The composite strap is very comfortable. The watch wears very differently than the steel one. 5980R is way more substantial on wrist. Hope this helps.

Hi Mark. I am glad to know you love the rose gold of PP. I do,too. But I don't know 5980R is possibly changed to fit with bracelet. Can you confirm it? This will save me a 5980/1R's money. Thanks

I completly forgot the strap 5980R existed previously to the new bracelet version.
When I saw Keks' post I thought it was the bracelet one on which he put he strap (as I think some references can, like the Aquanaut for instance).
For your question, as I heard from other references, it may not be possible indeed.
I will contact Patek to be sure but, this is my mistake, I was to quick and a little tired when answering his post :p

Mark. I like 5980R a lot. Nautilus on strap looks different. I guess that is somehow because of the end link pc. By the way, since you are in France, do you happen to know why are are only two ADs in the entire France while a smaller Italy has so many? I am curious.

This is the watch to go! Congratulations! You will never get bored of it. Many ppl think a Nautilus should be on bracelet. But, 5980R and 5712R can easily stand on their own.

I saw a strap 5726A on a wrist at a Patek Philippe presentation last year. The men was wearing a grey suit with this watch and it looked more elegant than the bracelet version.
The Nautiluses in that outfit is a better balance beetween the metallic reference and the classical leather strap ones (like Calatravas): a mix of both worlds and more dressy.
The braceelet Nautiluses are liked for different reasons, especially the overall look, the comfort, the sportier look, the finishing work of the bracelet's links...
2 very different but equally appealing offers.
