When Zenith launched the Type 20 Special, it caught my attention because it was so different from what they were offering. And when I read about Zenith's history in Pilot watches and the fact that it actually owns the trademark for "Pilot" on a watch dial, I was wondering what took them so long to come out with this?
However, 57.5 mm was just too overwhelming for my wrist. In the other post, I saw Thomas carries it well on his which is god given. I tried the Type 20 GMT in 48 mm when it was introduced but it just did not look right yet on my wrist because of the lug design. On the other hand, the 40 mm version was a tad too small for a "modern time" pilot watch. Why could not they come up with a 44 or 45 mm?
Then came the Extra Special 45 mm with the Selita movement, what was Zenith thinking? It looked like a really bad idea to start milking the success of the model.
With the Extra Special Bronze, I think Zenith has hit the jack pot . A great classic simple design with an awesome bronze casing.
My only small "complaint" is the buckle which is not in bronze, otherwise, overall it is terrific and my first Zenith.
Here are a few IP pics to share.
