Zenith

Such a unique approach to "skeleton" dials...

 By: JToddH : May 2nd, 2016-06:23
The "inverted" openwork date wheel is clever and counter to what we've seen from the other LVMH brands. Very well executed IMO. Personally, I actually like the overlapping subdials though I wish they had more depth, a la Heuer 01 with its sloping rings on the sundials.

The variation in colors of the subdials, red accents and overall color scheme are wonderful.

I also like the dimensionality of the marker and the date window looks great....and legible!

I'm glad they changed nothing on the back. A grand view of El Primero...don't mess with perfection! Disrupting this would be blasphemy!

This is probably my favorite Zenith currently in production. I missed it at Baselworld so thank you for bringing this piece to light!

Wonder why they missed it in the PR map

I'm a fan of cleverly skeletonized watches. Which is why I tend to like this Zenith, too.

First thought was about the skeletonized date ring.
Is it that LVMH will make it the identification mark of their brands family like you would find similar switches in the car interior across the Volkswagen brands?

In my kind opinion, I would like brands like Zenith to stay independen, even with such a detail like the date ring.
Is it only me thinking like that?

Though it is a nice piece and I would like to see one on my wrist. I'd like to verify the impression of a rather busy appearance compared to your pic with shirt. Short sleeves might be the way to go and you've got a guaranteed eye-catcher.

Thanks for bringing this model to my attention and please accept my kind regards,
Kolosstt

Short sleeves... must try that one time! [nt]

Zenith dilemma

 By: MTF : May 3rd, 2016-03:21

Magnus,

Thanks for the report of an "undiscovered country" with this PuristS-named Zenith watch:  El Primero Sport Skeleton

Nature abhors a vacuum so that name will do as well as any other.  wink

Viewing this watch for the first time in your report, I was filled with dichotomous feelings.

Usually, I do not wear metal bracelets except under overwhelming climatic duress (humidity / sweating) but somehow the Zenith El Primero Sport Skeleton is aptly complemented by the bracelet. It must be the "metal work" theme that makes it so.  "Mostly Harmless" is my conclusion....

I agree that the overlapping sub-dials are incongruous with precision of timing that Zenith is famous for.......

Regards,

MTF

Comparison with its older cousins

I prefer the earlier version though I can see clear improvements in the new dial

Wonderful - particularly the subdials...

I have not seen this very before, ever, and I really, really love those subdials. Those in the colours of the Sport version, and the watch would be perfect!
Thanks a lot for sharing,
Magnus

Melvyn, I would guess its apparent 'harmlessness' will vanish instantly ...

till so far my "so called" limited edition Lightweight that has a lookalike now, I think Zenith entered my limited edition zone of buying them now, not that i don't like this model but if they start copying their LE's into a standard model and you do this several times you might loose the trust of your buyers

Well, I can partly understand you but then again...

I would clearly say that these are two different watches (just with a similar dial):
  • different case shape
  • different pushers
  • different diameter
  • different materials
Just an (almost? Difficult to judge from the pictures!) equal dial does in my book not qualify for 'sameness'. Similar, sure, but not identical (this one has no red hands/bezel ring, though):

Patrick, I perfectly understand the pleasure and allure of owning a unique watch. But if very strict criteria are to be met the brands' freedom to create LE's would be severely restricted, and be it only for reasons of 'feasibility' (and here I would include the financial and procedural implications).

Best,
Magnus

I understand why ...

 By: P@trick@Belgium : May 8th, 2016-03:54
they are doing this and as a matter of fact they are certainly not the only one in the business using this kind of trick to sell a few watches more but at the end the customer feels a bit cheated on .... you pay a surplus for a watch that looses a lot of value IMO once they start creating lookalikes with just minor changes. It's one of the reasons why I stop buying these LE's or buy them only with a big reduction (which in some cases is not hard as a result of what i stated above). But still I would find it more honnest to just not put a LE on a model and let the buyer decide if it is worth the price asked for wink . Nonetheless like I said it's a goodlooking sportwatch ! here's a pic of my own limited edition "look" with a sporty red strap on it smile

I'm not a huge fan of zenith offerings, but this one really pulls me in. [nt]
