So the upcoming chronometer competitions (which pretty unfairly exclude non-European brands) got me thinking. I read previously somewhere that even though tourbillons are more accurate in tests (they're compensating for position after all), they're actually in theory less accurate on the wrist because the wrist is not static and the tourbillon is simply draining energy from the mainspring without any real contributions.

I browsed the web site and found only 7 participants for the classic in 2011 and a perfect watch would score 1000 points.  The surprising news is FP Journe only scored 488 which does not seem to be impressive at all.  Does that mean the tests are tough?  It is a pity that there is no sign of participation from any of those manufacturers who claim their products are accurate in particular those who invest heavily in marketing.

magentic exposure, shocks, and other things, some of which broke watches so those are only the ones that finished, there's a list of all the participants somewhere. This year there are 31 participants, who knows how many will even finish.

and am much too tired to search out their norms for testing, how they were determined and whether they make more human (marketing)  than scientific sense.
