I believe it was used mostly for the last decade 90% by fishermen, and wandering tourists and street folks. Yellow is the original straight-ish pier.

The city wants to "
upgrade the pier experience" and provide for socializing moments and family excitement and so forth, hence curves and loops and swoops. We shall see if those survive the engineering and/or budget. And I have rarely seen any kids out there, despite the concept below. Maybe with enough safety wire parents would be more comfortable with their kiddos running around on the pier.
The curves may spoil those linear photographs that I love... but then I may not be around when they finally get around to doing something about it!
