If I only look at the watches, they are interesting and strong designs.
When I consider having "Freak" attached to them, that is where I have a disconnect. The original Freak was touted as a watch without dial or crown. These newer models surely have a crown, and seemingly a dial.
I should not be hung up on the name. Your could call my Freak Out a "Black piece of Crap" and I would still have purchased it. But this X design will never come to my mind when someone says "Ulysse Nardin Freak".

It’s a Labradoodle!
It reminds me on the time we used a vet who bread standard poodles. He truly loved and admired that breed and held the standards with the highest regards. Our neighbor had recently purchased a Labradoodle, and I casually mentioned that in passing. Boy, do I still remember the look of distain and utter disgust he gave me. How dare anyone bastardize his beloved standard poodle breed and mix it with another dog!
And that’s the issue many of us have with the Freak X. It’s a very nice watch, in its own right, but it’s a bastardized version of the Freak. Anyone who truly appreciates the Freak is most likely going to think this way. In my opinion, it was a marketing mistake. It’s a great watch, but they should have named it something else. It’s no Freak to me.

It's ok and all but it reduces the Freak to just another "nice watch".

I guess it is a way to get a more affordable Freak. But as you said, I don't think it is a Freak anymore. It is not that easy to touch to a myth. [nt]
