Sonata or Freak X
If you had to choose between the two, which one would you buy and why?
You are in the pure Ulysse Nardin Universe with these two.
The Freak and the Sonata don't have any competitors. They are both unique. And both so Ulysse Nardin.
The Sonata is more " friendly " than the Freak with its 24 hours alarm sounding like a minute repeater, its GMT you can set forward and backward and the date you can set forward and backward, too.
The Freak is more an UFO, which will give you the Time, only, and which looks like no other watch. It is more " conceptual " than the Sonata.
The good news is that you can't go wrong with any of them.
Let's say that if you travel, then the Sonata is more for you.
Aaah, another point: The first generations of Freak were not water resistant. Which may be a problem. Not for me, personally. And the Freak cannot be seen as a daily wearer.

I never thought that the Freak was a daily wear watch. Remember that...
I said Freak X, which IMO is not really a Freak.

Nicolas, whey you are saying that Freak cannot be daily wearer are you referring to any Freak? I remember that original had all sorts of issues and later had to be converted to Freak v. 1.5, but I thought those problems were solved at some point. I used to own Freak Cruiser and haven't had any problem wearing it daily (except for its enormous size)
It is not a problem of reliability, this is solved. But can you see yourself wearing any Freak for a whole month? Its originality and strong character makes me think it is not that easy to wear during a whole month.

Sonata is clearly a UN creation, the Freaks represents the essence of UN, at least before Rolf died.
The Sonata represents the essence of UN, Too. I think it is a matter of use. If you travel, the Sonata is for you. If you don't, then the Freak is more for you. But don't expect to use the Freak as a daily wearer. While you can, with the Sonata.
OOF, tough call. For me... Freak.
The Sonata is so beautiful, and the alarm function so cool. But I admire more the uniqueness of The Freak, and the wonderful mechanism.
Now that’s a hard question to answer.. i’d probably go Freak as it was a defining piece for UN. Now as what was mentioned earlier, the orig Freak or the X.. another tough call!
