I am considering purchasing the gmt dual time big date with a ss braclet to replace my Rolex Exoplorer II. As I am not able due to location to physiclaly inspect the watch.(I do buy through an agent who trades used) I am concerned about the heft of the UN as I opposed to the Rolex

Any comment would be a big help.

I don't know the Explorer II specifically, but I do remember the UN bracelet being more "massive" feeling, if not in actual weight, than the older rolex ones

You'll love the UN, it is a tad lighter than my GMT Master II, both in SS.

It is my opinion that the UN GMT +/- is the best GMT on the market. It is easy to read and easy to use. It has a number of features not common to others such as the fact that the hour hand on the dial is the local time not some shadow hand or on a subdial. The home time is shown by a digital read out at the nine o'clock position utilizing a 24 hour clock so that the home time is obvious regarding day or night. Also, the local time correlates with the date. Many GMT models show the date for the home time. I would rather know the date where I am rather than where I'm not.

As far as the heft, in the square model, the SS bracelet is quite hefty whereas the SS bracelet for the standard round case is not as bulky and actually is quite comfortable.

.... that the UN steel bracelet is in any case heavier and more solid than that of any older Rolex. While the older Rolex bracelets often did not have solid center links, neither solid end links, and a rather lightly stamped clasp, all these parts are solid steel in a UN bracelet.

Regarding the watch itself, it depends on the version you chose of the UN. The 40mm variant might be a little lighter than the 40mm Explorer II, but the larger UN dual Times are certainly heavier.
