In most regions of the Earth, "summer" means (relative) heat, sometimes high humidity, with people spending a lot of time sporting, or simply outdoors. Of course these conditions differ between Earth's equatorial regions and its the climatically more decent regions. However, even the latter are experiencing more frequently periods with temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius, and higher than 85% humidity - with compliments from global warming.

So what does a true WIS do when the thermometer explodes, and even the dogs refuse to leave the pool? Correct, he welcomes the opportunity to change the strap of his watch.

So please show me the summer outfit of your UN!

A nylon-fabric sailing-theme material on rubber base, made by Hirsch.



An older picture, showing the Marine Diver on a black/silver-white rubber strap, also made by Hirsch. This looked great with the silver-white dial, but was of poor quality, since the white part wore off very quickly.

Somewhere, I had a picture of my Marine Diver on an electric blue rubber strap, but unfortunately, I fail to find it right now.

Aside all experiments, however, my all-time favourite as most comfortable attachment of my all-time favourite all-day watch, is the marvelous rubber-titanium strap on the Marine Diver:

Oh, no, not in springtime, summer, winter or fall,

No, never would I wear a strap--at all!

For me, it's all bracelet, all the time--gold, platinum, stainless, titanium; I much prefer the metal on my wrist skin to leather, rubber or cloth of any kind.

I had a thread about this several years ago, and was not surprised that many disagreed.  Summer is particularly consonant with metal bracelets.  Thank you for asking.

... and wearing a leather strap during the summer months is an absolute no-go for them. I have tried that several times, but my problems are that

a) sweat is transported away from the skin less efficiently if the latter is covered by steel. I feel that most rubber straps permit a better airflow on the skin.

b) the circumference of my wrist is changing rather clearly over the summer day, but a lot less so during the colder seasons. So a bracelet watch either is dangling too loosely around my wrist in the morning, when it first correct in the evening, or will be too tight in the later part of the day. Leather and rubber straps seem to permit a better adaption; especially tang buckles or the most recent generation of folding clasps in use by some watchbrands already (unfortunately not by UN), which have a built-in quick fine-adjustment.

I think for the summer, a rubber strap works best.

... did you ever think about adding an orange or red bezel ring? I was pondering if the bezel rings of the orange, red, yellow and conventionel version could be interchanged, and how that might look.

Hello Marcus!

I think that for color combos, yellow & red or Yellow & a dark blue works well.  Porsche cars do the deviated stitching/seat belt/interior combo and it looks really good in those colors.

I have to admit that Blue/White 'Sailing' strap you got on the UN is getting better and better every time I look at it!

the most practical solution....rubber strap needs thorough cleaning whereas steel such more simpler.....summer here are hot and rain occasionally...

... is it possible even to equip this watch with a strap other than the steel bracelet? I thought that only the precious metal versions come with leather straps and this cannot be mounted on the steel version. Or am I wrong?

Anyway, this is definitely one of the most exclusive sports watches out there!

I guess you are right...they equip the expensive metal in leather strap and steel in steel bracelet....this is their normal practise i guess..

5712 are may be compatible,even if you get the steel 5712 its should fit well with the rg/wg provided leather starp,but it will be a problem looking for the buckle!

5980's case is thicker and currently,they are still no wg or rg version out,therefore leather starp is totally out of the question...

... I really love that moonphase Patek! What a pity that the supply with the steel version is kept so (artificially) low, it is one of the few Pateks I would really like to own. Well, I would also take the white gold version, but I fear it is a bit too pricey ...

As the Freak Strap is special, indeed.

And I already ruined the strap of my Sonata.

My 3 other UNs are a bit in the same situation.

So, I wear them, but I don't wear them everywhere.

Actually, I brought with me 2 of my UNs: The Freak, and the Sonata.

Will prepare a post about them...

I picked this up last year after i saw yours. I love the nautical look but not really liking the clasp. I should have bought the buckle.  Now I just need to get a strap for my GO sports evo impact and i'll be set.

... to the nylon strap. This worked quite good.
