Hi, 

I am new here and this is my first message.  I haven't had a nice mechanical watch since my last one was stolen in 1993 and am just thinking of buying again.  I have a preference for watches with Arabic numerals and do like the look of the Maxi Marine Chronometer.  My whole family likes the water and my children spent the week before last dinghy sailing followed by a week long family beach holiday that mainly involved surfing and fishing.  Of course, I always get involved in some way or another and end up spending a lot of time in the water.  The watch states that it is water proof to 200 m so I don't have to worry about water ingress but would you recommend using a UN watch as a day-to-day watch in this sort of environment or should I have a fun watch as well as a nice watch?  I would be very interested to hear other owners thoughts on this?

... that also serves as elegant dress watch. The only thing to take care about would be the strap: For your water sports, I would strongly suggest to add a rubber strap, since leather straps will suffer in water, especially salt water. For the dinner party, a leather strap would be an excellent addition.

for you.  As Marcus has already suggested, I highly recommend UN's rubber strap for day-to-day wear or during any aquatic activities.  Once sized properly (you have to cut the rubber strap to do so), the strap wears extremely comfortably with the UN deployant clasp.  I normally don't like deployant clasps, and even more so when used on a rubber strap, but UN's deployant works very well and sits in the middle of your wrist (assuming u sized the rubber strap properly).
