Ulysse Nardin Basel Fair 2014: Predictions, Dreams?

We already know three watches from the 2014 collection: The Dual Time Manufacture, which was posted by Marcus a few weeks ago, and the new Perpetual Calendar revealed to us by Foversta, in December 2013, as well as the " Horse ", which is the new enamel offer.

Now, what can we expect?

Tough question, when it comes to Ulysse Nardin watches, as they have an unlimited imagination.

My guess is that we may have some slight evolutions on some existing models. another tune, maybe a musical Watch in white gold, with another tune than The Stranger, even if I doubt that U.N can release it immediately. A case in white gold, it is easy, but another tune, that is a totally different music, if I may say.

I would love to see a new Astronomical Watch, to say all.

In the category of Dreams, I would madly love to see a Chrono Monpusher, as those they made in the late 90ies.

After a crazy 2013 millesime, I still want to be amazed and surprised.

The hands, dial, case... even the name! Can't wait for your report on this one.

As for new models at Baselworld 2014... it might be unlikely to see completely new complications, as UN has really gone to bat here these past years. I think last year they released 5 new Manufacture movement pieces? That is incredible.

I would not be surprised to see the caliber 118 utilized in a new Diver type watch. That would be a logical progression to me. Maybe a new blue dial Freak Cruiser? Could be a bit early for that.

As a side note, Donzé apparently is the firm that is making the enamel Pegasus dials for Vulcain for the Year of the Horse. From press photos, the dials look pretty good .

No, I am not afraid of an expansion of UN enamel dials.

Reason is that I rather have Donzé uses its production capacity to produce enamel dials for UN than other brands. This way UN can become even stronger in this niche market.

At least that is what my hopes are. With any luck they've been able to scale up production of the UN-118 to transition more away from the ETA movements. My hopes are for a Marine Chronometer with the UN-118 in a 43 mm case and Roman numerals. If they make that happen there's a strong chance I'll end up with one, preferably in SS and blue...

The 43 mm case already exists. As we are picky, I would love it without date, OR...

What I would wish is a new, sportive perpetual in steel case, similar to the old Diver Perpetual, but a bit stronger in design. Maybe in a ceramic case, or rubber-coated, or something in that league.

Well considering that,the tourbillon manufacture didn t pass my in-metal test and that the new Freak cruiser is way too big for me,I wish UN will come out with a new Freak"manufacture" 40 42mm maximum……..with enamel dial

I wasn t 100% convinced…The tourbillon wheel and cage is a bit small and the bridge not too attractive,the skeleton bridges leave a lot of space in the case…Mind its a beautiful watch but it didn t give me the goosebumps as I expected…

As for the Freak….I know……I will keep dreaming,Or go to the gym and make my wrist bigger.

I understand your feelings regarding the tourbillon manufacture. Just somehow, it does not ring a bell in me. Maybe it is due to my traditional reservations regarding machine-produced skeleton movements, which, in this case, should not even apply: This watch is not a typical modern skeleton watch where a given movement design is modified by computerized milling machines, but it is designed from the outset to consist not of massive bridges and cocks, but of metal frames.

Personally, I still prefer the Royal Blue, which is UN's most beautiful tourbillon in my eyes - second to the mighty Khan, of course!

... ex aequo: Haldimann, GP, Omega Central, most of the classic Breguet tourbillons, the Patek Eight Days (or is it ten? You know, the rectangular beauty), and so on, and so on. For me, the Royal Blue is the nicest among the UN tourbillons, if I do not count the Freak as a tourbillon.

After, it is a matter of taste, you are right, I meant Tourbillons who do sing to me.

I forgot two, and I have no excuses: The JLC Gyrotourbillon One, and the JLC Reverso Platinum Tourbillon Skeleton.
