Elegant sport watch
Dear all,
In my everyday life, I spend quite a lot of time playing with my 4 and 6 years old boys. This is often violent !
I have a blackberry and, as you know, there is a very powerful magnet in the associated case.
When I wash my hands at work, it happens that some water goes on the watch.
It has already happened that one of my children let one of my watch fall down.
I sometime go playing tennis just after work without going back home (so keeping the watch with me).
Etc.
Up to know, I feel only my Rolexes handle all this without any problem. Never a single problem.
Of course, I would prefer using a more "refined" watch. But it's rather hard to find both a quite refined design and movement and still a watch compatible with a "sporty" everyday life.
I am considering a VC overseas Dual Time as an alternative to Rolex. Do you think it would fit ?

I should also add...
... that I know Rolex has a specific treatment for the seals to make them very insensitive to perfume. As most men I use "eau de toilette" in the morning and I know this can compromise the water resistance of many watches. Are the VC compatible with perfume ? This can sound a crazy question but I think it makes sense in everyday life !
I think it is a great choice....
While I generally try to take off my Overseas when roughhousing with my two boys (7 and almost 4) so that they don't get clocked in the head with a metal watch that would have the same effect as brass knuckles, the watch has never been harmed by the play.
I never wear a watch while exercising (or even playing the piano), but that is because the watch gets in the way of my movement. While the Overseas probably could survive the shocks of a game of tennis unscathed, why risk it?
I'll have to ask about the treatment of the gaskets.

I would say there are a lot of things the Rolex can take that the Vacheron can't.
Whether things you do are rigorous enough to make that difference meaningful is another question.
While I owned my old-model Overseas (with a G-P movement) I treated it with reckless abandon and had no problem. (Of course, reckless abandon is a relative term, but I certainly swam, hot-tubbed, played with my kids and on one occasion played a game of softball involving major collisions while wearing it.) I ultimately disposed of the watch because I had difficulties with the timekeeping, especially in conditions of slight magnetism, and I had trouble getting along with the bracelet. I am not sure I would do the same with the current JLC movement, but that doubt is based on anecdote rather than personal experience.
