Vacheron Constantin

the 42 mm Patrimony Contemporaine Self Winding, which Vacheron Constantin released last year in its limited edition Excellence Platine collection, as a standard production model with yellow, rose, and white gold cases?

I know a lot of PuristS hold the caliber 1120 in very high regard:

I would have preferred to have seen the self-winding PC in Pt. come in a smaller size. 

I could not see VC issuing a self-winding 40mm PC since they already offer a manual wind in this same size size with the cal. 1400 and all other elements the same. But I would have gone in the smaller direction, as you suggest, perhaps a 36-38mm with the cal. 1120.  I am not sure if this is even possible given the downward curvatue of the dial around its perimeter on the PC.  Going "too" small might require a flat dial, which would not be as interesting or beautiful, IMHO. 

In fact, VC released a ladies' PC Small Model (ref 81530) with the beautiful, but handwound cal. 1400 and diamonds on the case side.  I would not mind seeing a diamond-less version of the PC Small Model...

My first concern was the size ... until I tried it on my wrist:



The 42mm version looks/fits much better than the 40mm version, on my (7.5") wrist. VC did a great job, when they worked on the details.

Once more, don´t judge by the numbers only.

Only the "prohibitive" price of the limited edition keeps me away, from that beauty. Maybe it comes closer without the premium for LE ...

that the 42 mm models fits you great when you had so much trouble with the 40 mm Patirmony Contemporaine. One does have to try a watch on to know for sure whether the fit is good or not.

40mm looked like a plate (maybe because of the "emptiness"), but the different proportions of the indexes ... the hands ... and here we go

Isn't it interesting what a difference of a couple of millimeters may make in the fit of a watch on our wrists?

Let's face it, the PC Self-Winding is stunning.  And I love the idea that VC continues to use the 1120, although I more easily swoon for this caliber encased beautifully in the Historiques Ultra-fine 1968.  ;-)

size was reduced to 40mm. 42mm is too big IMHO.

judging from the picture, the movement is quite small and the case was made bigger.

anyway looks wonderful still but just wondering

with a 28 mm movement in a 42 mm case.  I would have a problem with a sapphire case back on the 81180, which uses the 20 mm caliber 1400 in a 40 mm case:

...to put a solid caseback on the 81180, although I love to see the 1400, whenever the opportunity presents itself.

By the way, what is the spacer in the 81180 made of? Simply steel, I guess.
