Anybody have any news on Jiro Katayama's Otsuka Lotec watches?
Good morning!
A few weeks ago I came across some images in Instagram of Jiro Katayama's watches which are labeled with the Otsuka Lotec brand.
I've done a little digging around and can see that some of his last activity (besides his recent Instagram posting) was from 2015. There's a Star Wars themed series of watches
that he apparently produced, and haven't seen anything more. There doesn't seem to be anything in English (unless of course I'm not doing the right searches).
I'm curious if anybody has any other images of his pieces or can give any info about his work. It seems really great. He appears to be using a modern Mitoya base movement (if I'm not mistaken) and adding his
own cases and custom time display modules. There's some old videos of his work on youtube.
He has two models so far. The latest reminds me of the Nord Zeitmaschine in the particular way the time is displayed. Either way, they are very fresh and would love to hear from anybody how's handled his pieces or has any other news about his work.

His work is great, i love both the watches, i assume they might be affordable for average people.
The first one reminds me a mix between seiko discoburger and sevenfriday, while the second one is a nice retrograde watch with date.
We need to know more (prices are essential, i'm going to tokyo in april)

Love the comparative image! I have to ask a friend of mine to translate what it says on the Lotec dial of the model you have. Maybe Ken if he sees this post can help.
Glad that you like these pieces. I think the first pice might not be so thick. from the images i saw, the piece seems to be contoured. But yes, the second 'gague' piece has a flatter more direct feel.

That's a mA meter on the front of one of my tube amplifiers. It was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw your post, both being hand made in Japan.
I checked Jiro's blog and found some info on the watches, and a couple of videos on youtube. Looks like first model is in production, with the second one looks like he had some kind of problems with accuracy of the retrograde hands and he gave up. But maybe I'm wrong, google translator was all I had.

Yes, my immediate reaction was that
For a second I thought it might have been somebody involved in the design of the Zeitmaschine, but then realized that it's two different conceptions of a similar idea.
The Lotec piece seems more straightforwardly steampunk, for some reason they also bring to mind the Azimuth style of watches...
Still, would love to hear any first and experiences on these pieces,

These look like the 'star wars' themed pieces
With the blue R2D2 theme, and the gold 3CPO. Regardless of the Star Wars them I think they're great!
too bad that we don't have any of the owners of these pieces produced here on PuristPro I was hoping for some first hand images!

Some more info on his watches
My friend was able to take contact with Jiro Katayama and got some info on the pricing.
PM me if you'd like specifics, but both models seem to be available and they are quite affordable, we're talking in the low to mid 100K Yen plus tax, so for the quality and style definitely in a nice price range, IMO.
