Karsten Frässdorf is back for a 4th time
Good afternoon,
I noticed today that Monochrome Watches shared news of Karsten Frässdorf's new eponymous brand, and wrote a glowing review of his new watch. The watch itself is pure Karsten, which is to say very exciting! Apparently 20 of the 25 have already been sold. Any buyers here that can share their experiences?
I've fallen completely under the spell of each of his prior endeavors, first Fabrication de Montres Normandes (FDMN), then Heritage Watch Manufactory (HWM), then his work with Leroy. For better or worse I was never in a position to own one, as each of these initiative has failed.
However, these watches offer serious horological horsepower, and his new watch is no different. His philosophy of what a fine watch should be is very similar to mine, and I think he and I would have a lot to discuss were we to meet.
That being said, it's hard to get too excited given his commercial track record. Thoughts on this new brand? Is the 4th time the charm?

I hope that this time there will be a positive outcome. He is a very talented guy.

not a lot of industries would accept this kind of behavior. Do not forget he also let down some other brands than the ones you mention....

That's why the project was terminated and so was the employment of a number of executives including Mr Frässdorf.
I have no knowledge of previous projects as I have never seen a successful one.

Fascinating to see this...
I've followed his "potential work" for years after initially finding out about an early project from Don Corson whilst in Basel many moons ago. C. 2007 from memory.
Back then he had been contracted to create a couple of movements for a watch enthusiast/collector from Zurich, who though he might have a go in the watch business. Mr. Brogsitter had 4 models with 2 movements, one a massive tourbillon, the other a Constant force. They looked tremendously interesting and rather classic watches, rectangular 1930's style, but with massive balance wheels and fascinating movements from someone I had never heard of or seen anything like it.
Fast forward to now, having visited and seen the other projects in prototype form during various Baselworld fairs, I'm intrigued to see how this plays out. My belief is that he is an extremely talented watch constructor, however to have not had any of these watches actually see the light of day commercially, tells me that there must be some underlying issue, as Karsten is the common denominator in all these. We may never know, but I do hope these come to fruition, as I really like what I've seen in the past and in talking with him at Baselworld on several occasions. This new watch has much promise.
