Frodsham shock protection
Because the Daniels Double Escapement is sensitive to shock, a special system has been put in place to protect it. This is a evolution from a system originally developed by Junghans, according to Richard Stenning, director at Frodsham. I don't have the technical know-how to evaluate it, but I do hope fellow purists will comment and shed some light on it. Thanks!

I think all movements are suseptible to shock. If Daniels is more I hope someone can comment on why.
On the drawing see the silver colored object on the top of the jewel? That piece of metal and one at the other end put pressure on the jewel keeping the wheel in place. The metal has spring in it so when the watch is moved or hit against something the spring in the metal absorbs some of the force of the hit. This is the "shock absorbing" function. I have the same type setup in my Explorer.

The swiss lever is much more resilent to shock
than the Daniels' co-axial (according to RWS) or the Daniels' double escapement (according to Frodsham). Why that is, I hope someone can explain, please!

What does that even mean? The problem is less breaking the balance pivot and more that of the watch randomly stopping.
The problem is that the level of detachment involved in an efficient escapement such as this can leave the watch stranded with no balance impulse.

There is an article about the movement I can forward you if you pm me with an email. It states, if I recall correctly, that the movement is sensitive to fairly small lateral movements, which I imagine means the movement could stop and parts could even be damaged.
Shock protection, as a primitive definiton, would mean those structures designed both to stiffen the mechanism against movements which impede or damage it, as well as structures which may help to absorb force exerted on the balance. This watch seems to have a more elaborate approach to shock protection than a typical watch with a swiss lever escapement.
The movement is self-starting, I'm pretty sure, but I guess I'll find out for sure in 2020 (when mine is delivered)!

So the critical issue appears to be to contain the lateral movement of the balance. This is because the clearance between the impulse jewels (mounted on the balance) to the escapement is only 30 microns.
Now it makes sense. And yes, from the pics it should self start.
Probably best not to play tennis with it.

Seems to me like there is not much shock protection at all
Looking at the picture, the balance can move up and down quite clearly, however the system doesn't provide any give to actually absorb a shock when it comes to lateral movement. If you look at a standart incabloc shockproof, the hole and end jewels are housed in a coned bushing that is able to move in it's housing and is pressed down by the small lyre spring. The cone portion makes this system self centering while giving it a leeway to move and thus absorb shocks.
I see none of that here.
I understand my post might raise more questions than it answers ( that is if it makes any sense at all ).

if this design is just for public viewing, but not what is actually in the watch.
As you say Ondrej, I see no anti-shock function for lateral shocks. (or are the pivots so long that they are springy themselves???)
