Saw some really nice watches and Christine was the usual hospitable self. Some novelties (sorry I didn't get to take pictures of all the pieces on display), but I did get some pictures of those that I like. The Tefnut 36 is my favourite by far. Which is yours?

Do you think there is a problem with the people running MG?

I was there and talked to Mrs. Hutter. I missed the implementation of the passion. For whom does M.G. Watches? What does the customer want? There are no answers to these questions. That's why they are on the wrong track.

I know a lot of people might feel a little bit offended about such critical comments but I think you might have a point too. I do love their watches, but not sure what they are really pursuing in the business. Super high retail prices, but quite lower actual sale prices, huge case sizings (now they are making smaller ones), but I recently realized they make bunch of limited edition smaller case sized models for Asian countries like Japan, to me they looked much better than the stock ones they have on their website, I do know that their quality is outstanding but in terms of managing the brand it could be done much better. May be related to your point about "what does the customer want?" Their launch of Pure line up (SS cases, less finishing for less price) was interesting in its ideas but to me it really did not work at all. Would customer want their watch in SS / minimal finishing when they cost over $10k? Because I think if someone buys a MG watch it would mostly be because of its quality of finishing (and also its looks). But to sacrifice that and still cost over $10k, hmm.

I have not met Christina Hutter, so I cannot comment on your observation of her. I do think that the idea she started with was to compete with Lange, and in terms of quality I would say she is successful. But after the initial 4-watch models launch I have to say I haven't been impressed with the aesthetics of the newer releases-and the skull thing was pretty awful. Maybe you are right with your criticism.

I know it sounds bad, but it's just my feeling. When it comes to watches, I have a certain expectation and M. Grossmann can not fulfill that. Anyway they have some nice watches...

no need to be sorry, rather I want to thank you for offering insights from a different perspective. It was more than helpful. Do you believe that it can change in the future so that they are on the right track? I really like their quality but somehow even for a really good price I'm kinda starting to steer away from them at the moment..

I must confess that the appearance of a skull watch in their collection threw me off despite the finely finished movements and hands. I think Swiss watchmakers tend to be express their passion more than their German counterparts who are generally more subdued. Saying that, the director of communications at Moritz Grossmann, Rainer Kern, does exhibit the type of passion that Christine may seem not to exhibit. I am pretty sure though that having started the company ten years ago, she must have been exceedingly passionate in this venture but perhaps does not exhibit it the way some others do.

but it is so interesting that you made your comments about the brand at a time when they cannot seem to get anyone to bid on their pieces-which are tremendously undervalued at this point.

But you're right, as of this morning, there are still pieces which has attracted no bids. If not for a few pieces that just came in, I am tempted to jump in.
Under appreciated...while it seems that some have mentioned that MG doesn't seem to quite have a clear chart for the future and image they want to portray, they do have very nice looking watches and they're well finished too.

Where the Tefnut 36 is concerned, I quite like the fonts used here as it provides a little change from my Lange 1815 that I wear a lot. The Benu, while being really nice, was a little too close in aesthetic to the Lange, and I honestly would have preferred a little more differing finishing on the case. Personally, an all polished case seems a little dull to me, and I would have liked to see some variances, however slight they may be.
As for the twist - it is cool, but yes, a little feminine to my taste, and it did not help that the story behind it was a wife/girlfriend struggling to wind it with nicely manicured nails that gave birth to the idea Also, just my OCD, but after winding it, the lug/screw bar on the twistable lug didn’t want to stay parallel with the watch.

and fits our wrists well but I have to say that the movement of the Benu is the best. Firstly at 36.4mm (that is the movement size by the way), it fills up the 41mm case so completely. The movement on the tefnut 36mm is only 26mm in size. Secondly, the beauty of the Benu with its simple Arabic numerals,curved lugs and a thin bezel actually make it a very wearable watch.  But my favourites as you know are the piece uniques currently being auctioned at Christie's!!  Phwoar!!!
