That Macedo is quite something

Look at that subtle co-branding and terrific sector dial

Co-branding

Very nice and subtle placement of the co-branding indeed. Reminds me of the PP 5125

Here is the problem, for me. A sector dial should come with a central second, nota small seconds which eats the sector dial... Otherwise, a great watch.

Agreed!

A real question here: has any brand released a really good sector dial recently? There was Habring with a special edition I believe
PP and Jaeger have made the 'date' mistake
Longines and Ferrier have made the 'small seconds' mistake

Recent sector dial

I’m not sure if this is the Habring sector dial you are referring to as there were some previous similar iterations, but I absolutely love everything about this watch. The design, the proportions, the aesthetics, the jumping seconds - it’s one that won me over immediately.

Nice!

I had only seen a version of sector dial made by Harbring in collaboration with TimeZone but never seen yours before (I attach below a picture, credit Harbring - @moderator: feel free to remove if that is not ok to post)

Your version is very nice! 😀
What can you tell us more about it? Is it something that can still be ordered or another LE? Also are the numerals stamped or applied? I like it, a lot!

That one is tops!

Habring Erwin LAB 02

 By: BMR : August 5th, 2021-16:49
This is the name of the one that I posted, and it was designed by William Massena, as was the one you posted, if I recall correctly. Massena has done a few of these collaborations in limited editions, and the one that I have was the most recent one done under his company Massena LAB. The one you posted, I believe, was the first one he did while he was still at Timezone. If someone knows more concretely these facts, please correct me if I am wrong.
Mine was a limited edition of 50 that was announced about a year ago now. Mechanically, it is the same as the one you posted with the same movement and functions. I believe the case, bezel, and proportions are also all the same. The defining characteristic of mine is the two tone rose gold and silver dial that was inspired by a vintage Patek Philippe 96 from the 1930s. The numerals are raised. I find that they, along with the the blue seconds hand add some extra contrast and dimensionality. As I mentioned previously, it's a watch that I fell for immediately. Habring simply does amazing work especially given the price points.

Beauty

Thanks for sharing the context and the details. It is a beautiful watch and I can understand why you fell for it:

The two-tones dial, the heritage going back to PP96, the details on the dial with raised numerals, and the LE dimension, all contribute to make it very special 👍.

Wear it in best of health - and enjoying its simple beauty!

Thank you very much for your kind words!

Simple beauty tends to be my favorite, although, there are a few exceptions smile

Alas, I have to agree. Well, there is one which is quite good... This one.

Without " Automatic ", it would be perfect!

Agreed; syringe hands?

 By: Jp75 : August 5th, 2021-16:27
Very nice; I came very close to pulling the trigger on that one but always wondered about the syringe hands.

Do you know why JLC went for the syringe ones and didn’t go for alpha hands, - or any blue ones for that matter (bleutées). Is that a historical reference for Jaeger?

Also what do you all think about it? For me the sector dial is something driven by strong utilitarian aspects (be these military or scientific in nature). And the syringe seems less than a obvious choice. But I’m keen on learning more, as there is certainly a logic (which I’m currently missing, but willing to learn😀)

About the Master Control Chrono sector dial...

 By: amanico : August 5th, 2021-16:35
There was a strong influence, here, with this pocket watch.

And truth to be told, I would have much preferred the leaf shaped hands of this pocket watch.

Now about the syringe hands, there was a precedent. JLC used them on some watches, such as the... Deep Sea Alarm:

And truth to be told, again, I would have preferred full syringe hands rather than skeleton.

Best,

Nicolas

Less is more … and more difficult

 By: Jp75 : August 5th, 2021-18:16
First of all, thanks for sharing the detailed background info, amazing wealth of knowledge.

I fully agree with you and really like the hands on the original pocket watch, would have been ideal - my first choice.

Also the other you example you posted (syringes hands filled with lume), would have been nice too.

Actually reading to your post and looking at the pictures, I realize that what bothered me wasn’t the fact that the hands were “syringes” but the fact that they were hollowed out.

Finally that brings an interesting thought, also going back to the original post about the LF: doing “simple” design seems so hard because one must get everything totally right - and the simpler the watch, the more critical it gets to get it harmoniously so. For instance in the JLC case, the hands. In the sector dial, how to not interrupt the rail-track…

Maybe one should say less “less is more … and less is also more difficult”???

Less is more difficult, definitely, as much as simplicity is tougher to reach. Have to agree, here.

True, true... Even if, for once, I am not too mad about the Macedo LE...

 By: amanico : August 4th, 2021-20:10

quite easy solution

Choose a custom made LF, buying a LF galet with micro-rotor and add this second dial ;-)
My 2 cents.

No, nor for me.

so funny to read

how you react regarding to add lots of options on your car, but not a "second dial" for your watch ;-)
