but then, for watch pics, I personally prefer the subjects to speak for themselves.

The brands and their marketing/advertising departments can always do a far better job than we can for the "glamour" stuff.

Why this oval? I would love to see the same style Mastheads at every brand forum. What I mean is the same style of photography if possible, but at least the same shape, the same size, same boarder (if any) Only then we get a certain uniformity, a stronger layout/style at the brand forums. For me this becomes chaos and that's a pity, being aan Art Director, may be makes me too critical. An oval for the AHCI, a rectangle building shot for AP, a tini simple product shot for Blancpain, Harry Winston, a macro for Lange, a round movement for Chopard etc. With Photoshop lots can be done and I'll be more than happy to make an example to illustrate what I have in mind. A wide shot at the top of the page will work best, but that's only my opinion. Hope I did not insult anybody; that was certainly not the idea. Geo

As we become "more professional" I am sure there will be more consistency across the new site - type fonts, picture "styles," page formats, use of colors, etc.

I am very familiar with the concepts underlying "CIS" - corporate identity systems.

Having been an enthusiasts driven, hobbyist site, I deliberately kept the "garage tinkered, hodge podge" look and feel.  Certainly that is no excuse for bad taste or lousy design. 

On the other hand, I don't think anyone can argue with the easy, intuitive interface; fast loading; and easy to understand hierarchical indented indexing of posts and threads.

That said, there is a wide range between bad taste or lousy design and being so artsy fartsy that style overcomes any substance; hopefully our site so far falls into somewhere in the middle.

Again, not that the following information PRECLUDED using a more consistent cropping dimension or shape, or more "stylish" layout of the pieces, but please note that ALL the pieces in the shot are privately owned - not "models, demos, and loaners" - by PuristS' within the community.

So, I guess, without disagreeing with your points, I only ask you to look at the pictures as "hey, come look at my photo album of my family" rather than "these are supposed to be professionally styled, groomed, contrived but Oh, so perfect" glamour shots.

Thanks for coming back to this subject Thomas. The "hey, come look at my photo album of my family", as you call it, is great and I certainly love to see more shots from members watches even if they're not professionally taken. In fact I wish people would post more shots of their existing or new timepiece. But let the masthead be reserved for a cool shot or montage of the brand and that does not need to be replaced every week. F.i. the photo we had voor Richard Mille some weeks ago. The watch in the window shot with the city in the back; that was great, if a picture like that could stretched out a bit, so it takes the total widt of the top page, then the whole page starts looking much more professional. Just a thought. Geo

...so you can never have a photo which precisely fits the width of everyone's browser window. Therefore I don't think your suggestion is practical.

Dear Dr Mao,

I see the same old (but very pleasant) triptych of the Beat Haldimann centre tourbillon. I have tried 'refresh'  to no avail and would not have the first idea how to empty a cache. Thank you, though, for your suggestion: I will find a nearby 15 year old to empty my cache, program my VCR and change the digital time on my cell phone !!

On Mozilla Firefox you can click on tools, clear private data, and then select 'cache' and hit 'clear private data now.'  Minority age status not required ;-) .  On IE you can go to tools, internet options, delete temporary files (should do it iirc.)

I wonder if with the new site some of us by some strange timing issue missed the pic update and therefore will not appear.  Could somebody try deleting the header and putting it back..??  I can see all other headers.
I can see the link to the video clip - are those available and what would be an ~cost just out of interest for that piece..??  Private PM obviously.
