Dubey and Schaldenbrand is
a brand based in the Jura mountain village Les Ponts-de-Martel in
Switzerland between Neuchâtel and La Chaux-de-Fonds. The owner, Cinette
Robert, is as far as I know the only woman at the head of a watch
company in Switzerland and is the daughter of a family with a long
watchmaking tradition. As with so many brands D&S had big
problems in the '80s of the last century. Mme Robert took
over more than 10 years ago making watches in tonneau style cases with
refurbished NOS movements that Mme Robert had stocked for the future
during the big watch crisis in Switzerland. In the meantime most
of the movements are from ETA as I understand, but they still have some
special watches with NOS movements.
One of D&Ss signature charactoristics is that many of their watches
have engraved movements, although I must say that on some of the
watches I have seen the engraving looked to have been very hastily done.
I think that D&S has unique watches at a good price point, they are
good solid Swiss watches. It is nice to see a company that spends
it money on their product and not on expensive web presentations and
other marketing hype.
If the watch speaks to you, go for it !
