Last week, as I was reviewing my first set of pre-Kari-lunch Observatoire photos, I was gripped by a sudden panic! It seemed as plain as day in the images that there was something horribly wrong with the edge of the dial at around 9 o'clock -- perhaps some insidious corrosion working its way around the back of the dial?

I grabbed my trusty loupe, and viewed the problem from a number of angles. Hmm...maybe not on the dial itself...could it be...yes indeed! As it turned out a toothpick and polishing cloth were sufficient to remove -- from the seam between the crystal and the bezel -- a few shreds of old peanut shells...
Next time we go to the Long Bar, I am keeping my watch on my wrist! Of course, that still will not guarantee that I won't drop my wrist into one of the boxes of unshelled peanuts, but I will have to take my chances. All in all, a pleasant reminder of a great meeting with pplater and other PuristS pals in Singapore a few months ago!
All the best,

Great story, Gary. Wish I had been there to toss a few shells on the floor with you.
