Horological Meandering

Great programme

I saw this programme on TV a few weeks ago, very interesting and informative look at a pivotal point in horology. Breguet was a genius by any interpretation of the word. I highly recommend everyone making time to watch this.

FINALLY! Thanks for the heads-up! [nt]

I may be wrong here!

But Breguet did not invent the automatic watch. The automatic watch if I am not mistaken was invented by Abraham-Louis Perrelet in the 1770s and Breguet improved on this. It was not until 1928 that an Englishman called John Harwood started selling automatic wristwatches having had his invention patented in Switzerland and England in 1923.

Nevertheless Breguet remains the greatest watchmaker who has ever lived and the programme is definitely worth a watch for all watch enthusiasts.

Best wishes,

Sham

You are not mistaken, Sham.

As Sham pointed out above, Perrelet, not Breguet, was the inventor of the automatic watch.

Thank you, Sham! smile
