Cartier managed many laudable feats in his life but also ensured one thing - the slow and inexorable decline of pocket watches.
This situation - while quite practical in everyday life - poses a difficulty for me at the moment. Namely my mother has decided that she would like to get me a pocket watch as a birthday present. Now I suppose that the vintage route is certainly the more promising avenue but just to understand the situation I was wondering if there are any interesting modern alternatives out there.

Now I've found some offers (Tissot, Orient, Bell & Ross and some just out of production Longines) but not much more. Now I hope we have a handful of overt or hidden pocket watch enthusiasts that could help...

Any information / ideas welcome!
