It's absolutely true that I find myself drifting towards a new approach on metals without consciously knowing.

So true.

I can only afford steel. [nt]

I like you started off with YG I still find it a bit show off but it works for certain model Rose gold works the best for vintage I feel but an old YG with a bit of tarnish and patina is the same BTW I am color blind so I find it very difficult to distinguish between old YG and rose in most watches WG is something new for me and I only have one piece 5235- Plat is still very special and for me it is " under the radar" - similar to a ss patek - rare but not no one really knows

I believe a watch can suit a specific type of metal, but the caveat is that this "suitability" is all in the eye of the beholder.

My 2509 is in yg. I just cannot conceive that watch in any other metal looking as good. But that conception is only valid to me.

As a general rule, I tend to feel vintage looks nicer in coloured metal unless it is a sports watch. Then only steel. For a more vintage non sports watch, rose or yellow work for me. I would also say I think there is a graph in my head with case size on one axis and preference for coloured metal on the other axis. The bigger the case, the more I prefer white metal.

I wonder what I will think in a decade?

White metal

I also prefer white metal for my watches - SS for sports watches and Platinum/WG for dress watches.
