if the boutique personnel are to be believed.  And I just put a non-refundable deposit on another watch that is making its debut this month, but I don't know when I will receive this one.

That sounds better than in the near future or soon... but sometimes they have a special language just to keep us hanging on and praying for a safe arrival! Look forward to seeing it.

.... when I went by my favourite retailer, just for a brief chat with my favourite saleswomen, and - only to have an excuse for this social exchange - asked to see two or three watches they had, but wasn't really interested in. As expected, there wasn't anything that really excited me: the GO PanoMatic Lunar in blue that I do like, but is a bit more than just a casual purchase. Omegas that I either actually have, had, but gave away again, or was never tempted to buy, Breitling dito. So I nearly got away unscathed .... nearly ....

The mistake was to ask for that piece resting in a barely illuminated corner of the shopwindow. Didn't look spectacular at all there. However, as soon as I got it into my hands, it was as if it spread out a myriad of tentacles catching me in an unescapable web, like Kankra neatly packing Frodo for dinner. The act of putting the watch onto my wrist was a mere formality, since I was hopelessly sold already. Yet even that added further to its fascination.

If I would tell you the name of this watch, you would turn away, because neither the brand nor this particular model does enjoy highest respect in the celestial realm of horology. So I will spare you the disappointment. But for me it is a mere beauty, despite the fact that it represents a type of watch that in earlier times was never to my liking, which I even loudly ridiculed as "wannabe", and that - despite of this opinion - has found ways to take over my watch box in absolute domination.

So things went as things often do in these particular premises: I made a deposit, and the watch and its box moved into a distinct region of the dealer's safe that appears to be already firmly marked "for Marcus' watches only". From there, it will be removed in the future weeks whenever I enter the shop with big eyes and an expression similar to Dicken's Oliver Twist asking for another bowl of soup, so I can hold it, and fondle it, and wind it, and operate it, ....... my precioussssssss ...........

You know there is no such thing as a free coffee or just a chat in a watch shop... they always cast that magical spell as you walk over the threshold in order to pull you in to the dark.
I hope it makes an appearance on here... you have got me wondering what this creation must be!!

Brilliant watch and I actually ordered one straight after Basel last year, then a few months later had a friend ask if he could take it instead when it came in. I remember when he picked it up from the AD, I felt a little twitch of disappointment (that it was not on my wrist)... but he did buy me several beers after he collected it If it had been orange, no way it would have gone anywhere.

... and whenever I thought about an un-circular watch, it popped up in my mind. They even had a blue-face Monaco at the dealer, aside the Monza. However, in direct comparison, I voted for the TV-screen case of the latter.

I always had some kind of soft spot for the ETA 2894 chronograph movement. Despite the critics complaining about its modularity, or the non-repairability of the chronograph module, I was impressed by the cleverness of the module's layout, that ETA succeeded in what apparently no other manufacturer, including AP achieved: in transferring the date indication of the base movement to the top of the module. I recall that, many years ago, our Ei8htohms posted a concise report on the inner structure of this chronograph module that did impress me. Unfortunately, most of those reports hosted on tp178.com appear to have been lost for posterity.

The even more dangerous thing is when you have full trust and good relationships with some ADs they can reserve the watch for me without deposit.
So I don't feel the pain of taking out wallet when I say yes through a call, or an mail, or a coffee like you described. Then the pain hits so badly when the accumulated yes needs to be billed...

Something old but new to you? Good luck with the funding... we all have the same issues, but that makes us appreciate them even more when they finally do get put on our wrist.
